5.0 out of 5 stars Thieving... rocks, October 7, 2004
When I picked up Thieving from the House of God, I was expecting the typical stoner rock sound I knew from the first few Orange Goblin albums. What I ended up getting was better than that.

While at its core Thieving is still stoner rock, it's got a straight hard rock vibe blended into it, vaguely like a more bluesy Motorhead. It's far more up tempo than anything I had heard from them before. Like their past albums though, it focuses on straight up catchy riffs, which are something Orange Goblin can churn out with the best of them.

Thieving has a good deal of variety to it. Songs range from the borderline punk "Tosh Lines" (which is all of about 1 minute long) to the Motorhead-ish "Some You Win, Some You Lose", the vaguely Southern rock influenced "You're Not the One (Who Can Save Rock n' Roll)" (including some female vocals) to the heavy pure stoner rock riffs of "Round Up The Horses." The slight style changes between songs keeps Thieving interesting throughout.

It's just an enjoyable album all the way through, and really I suggest that anyone looking for a good hard rock album give it a listen. You will bang your head to this one, and you'll enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars heavier than an elephant in lead boots..., October 14, 2005
This review is from: Thieving From the House of God (Audio CD)
I can't put into words how crushingly heavy this album is. From start to finish, it rocks!

This is a definate departure form the stoner-rock sound that Goblin cultivated, but it still stands alone in its own right.

It's fast. It's groovy. It stomps all over your aural capacity.

For good tracks, check out "some you win, some you lose," "black egg," "if it ain't borke, break it" and "crown of locusts." This should appeal to anyone that likes music along the lines of Pantera or anything with a little weight to it. Once again, be prepared for riffage.

Totally awesome...

5.0 out of 5 stars Goblin Strikes Again, September 1, 2006
Orange Goblins continues there mix of southern, thrash and stoner rock on their latest greatest cd. "Black Egg" scales new heights for the band, including an outstanding background gospel vocal performance that's reminiscent of the Stone's "Gimme Shelter, however much much harder and faster. Truley one of the few transcending moments in rock music thus far the 21 century. This is state of the art Goblin...better than "Time Traveling Blues."
