Arden is a very creative and smart individual. Her brother Scott has been raising her since their parents were in a plane crash. Scott and Arden's relationship is just like any other brother and sister's but not only is Scott a brother to her, but he's a father figure too. I recall one time when he tried to explain her name, "Arden can't you wait. I mean didn't you want to know why mom chose to call you Arden?" Everything seems to be going well with Scott. He's got a girlfriend who he seems to be happy with, and he has his snowmobile. But he hasn't convinced Arden that he is happy with his life. One morning Arden wakes up for school and notices that her brother hasn't came home. A day later she gets worried because her brother still hasn't shown up. She calls her brother's friend,Al Walker, who is also a policeman. He calls for a search and a few days later they find Scott's snowmobile by a creek just a few miles away from their house. Arden couldn't believe it, no he couldn't be dead. Everybody assumes that Scott is dead, except for one person... Arden. She spends the next few months searching for her brother. The big question is... Did Scott really die or did he just fake his death? Read the book to find out! I believe that young teens will enjoy this book because the charaters are very real to me. The relationships between the characters are easy to relate to.

A great story about the search for a lost brother.,

This review is from: Thin Ice (Hardcover)
This book is about Arden and her search for her missing brother Scott. Arden just turned seventeen and she lives with her brother. Since both of her parents are dead, she has no one left in the world except her friends. While searching for her brother, Arden continues her framing business, school, and taking care of the house. Thus begins the healing and possible admit to defeat of her brother's dead. I enjoyed reading this book, and although I find the plot to be unusual, I liked the ideals. Arden is a character with very human feelings, and is stubborn in finding her lost brother. She will not admit defeat until she has tried to find her brother, even if she has to go against all odds. The climax of this book is rather surprising, but very emotional as well. I would recommend this book to teenagers of all ages.

Captivating!,

This book was really good. I read it on recommendation of a friend, and all I could do after I started was read. I liked it a lot. After I finished I just kept going back and reading over some of the best parts, over and over. It was really good! The story is about a teenager named Arden who lives with her brother. Both of her parents died when she was young, so he takes care of her. One day he gets in a snow machineing accident, which really scares him. A week later when his snow machine, and other things are found in the river, she knows he is dead. Or is he? No one beleives her, thinking it's brought on by depression, as she starts to search for her missing brother. This book was captivating, a story like no other. I would DEFINATELY recommend it.

It was a very touching story,

The book was about a girl named Arden who was raised by her older brother,Scott. When she was 17 her brother had a snowmobile accident, but Arden believes that he staged it. It basically tells how Arden searches to find her brother and how she realizes how important the little things in life are.I really enjoyed reading this book, it taught me a lot about life, love, and families. I learned how important family can be and how you should never take the things that you have for granted because they wil not always be there. I think that everyone should read the book Thin Ice. It had a very realistic plot and a basic story line that is easy to learn a lesson from.

A riveting mystery.,

This review is from: Thin Ice (Hardcover)
Did Arden's older brother fake his own death to escape his responsibilities? As Arden searches for answers, she must not only face the truth about her brother's life, but about her own. This novel is both a mystery and a psychological thriller; Arden is a heroine who will linger in your mind. This is Marsha Qualey's best book so far, and that's saying something. Don't miss it.

Thin Ice Cracks with Excitement,
By Julie Robinson (Fort Collins, Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thin Ice (Laurel-Leaf Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
Marsha Qualey's Thin Ice evokes mystery and adventure in a small Wisconsin town. Set mostly in the snowy confines of a harsh winter, Thin Ice invokes all the familiar components of growing up in the Midwest; the twist to the story is the mysterious death of Arden's older brother, Scott.Arden and Scott grew up on their own (Scott is twelve years older than Arden) after their parents died in a plane crash. The book opens with the highly creative and sarcastic Arden turning seventeen and the hardworking and resourceful Scott breaking through an icy patch of stream while riding his snowmobile. Less than a month after surviving the first crash, Scott is pronounced dead after having a second eerily similar crash through the thin ice of a rushing river. The mystery advances as Arden refuses to accept her brother's death (it is too dangerous for a rescue team to dive for his body). Teenager turned detective, Arden works through many promising leads until she exhausts herself with the grief and hard work that go into this enterprise. She also puts her friendships and future in jeopardy as she becomes obsessed with the death and life of her brother. Sometimes witty, sometimes depressing, Arden's voice rings true as she interacts with adults who fawn over her, rowdy teens who crash her house to party, and good friends who lose patience with her nonconformist coping strategies. Qualey is a pro at teaming angst teenage girls with mystery. Young readers who enjoy Qualey's books will probably grow up to read P.D. James, Sue Grafton, Amanda Cross, Agatha Christie and other female mystery writers devoted to pairing strong women characters with "who done it?" situations.

Page Turner,

This review is from: Thin Ice (Laurel-Leaf Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
The story surronds a teenager, Arden Munro and her obsessive search for her lost brother Scott, who as everyone believes died in a tragic snowmobile accident. Arden, whose orphaned and been raised by her older borhter, believes he staged his accident. Desptie her friends objections, she goes on a wild goose chase to find him in this page turner. Qualey mixed humor with suspense and the plain reality that sometimes you haev to go against others to stick to your own opinion. Arden does learn though more about Scott's life, his pregnant girlfriend and exactly how hard he worked to raise her. In the end though, she gets her question's answered, and a little "i told you so" payback from those who didn't believe her. The only problem I found was how she was willing to forgive Scott for actually staging his death than I was

I really enjoyed my bok, I thought it was very detailed and it seemed to fit me a little, but not much. I loved to read myatery books. But sometimes it can be really though. Arden is my favorite character because she is really brave in the book. I enjoyed reading Marsha Quatey's first book also. It's very good. This book specifically talked about Arden and here brother.I think that this book is best for ages 15and up. Cause you would really have to understand it to like it. It is like a mystery. If you like mysteries than read Thin Ice. i would give this book 5 stars because it's a very good book.

It kept me on the edge of my seat,

Arden Munro, smart, pretty, and very artistic. What more could you ask for? I guess in a situation like this, nothing. Arden soon realizes though, that her more than perfect life can be torn apart and taken advantage of in just seconds. Scott Munro, bright, handsome, and extremely mechanic-worthy. He had not a worry in the world, or so everyone thought. he found out that hiding his grief and running away from his problems was not the answer to things. I really liked this book. It caught my attention in the begining, and then I just couldn't take my hands off of it! I request this book to anyone who likes mystery and won't flip to the back of the book to find out what happens!-ENJOY!
