Okay, to begin with, I must state that neither my husband nor myself was born with a game controller in our hand so we usually need all the help we can get on any of the games we buy! :-) More importantly however, is the fact that UNLESS you have this guide (and are as aforementioned), you won't make it out of the first few scenes without being sliced, diced, and eaten - all in very graphic detail! :-) Once you do get this guide, the game really takes off and is a lot of fun. It was very well written, with some of the more difficult parts explained with actual game graphics as well soyou would know what the heck to look for, where to find it, and when to use it. ~Most Happy~ ¸.·' .·'¨¨)) ((¸¸.·' ..·' -:¦:- ~Lady Anne~ -:¦:- ((¸¸.·'

My Only Hope For Survival, September 5, 2011
This review is from: The Thing (Prima's Official Strategy Guide) (Paperback)
I really enjoy a good "search and shooter" game, whether it's "Tomb Raider" or "Left 4 Dead", and having the guide books was always nice, but not always necessary. It seemed essential with "The Thing", it's a complicated game, and can be extremely challenging, even on easy mode. Without the guide book I would have never made it through even the first third of the game. I'm a big fan of the movies, but there's all kinds of stuff, that happens in the game, that I just didn't have a clue as to what was going on. There's a lot to deal with. The strategy guide cleared most of that up, and gave some excellent explanations, strategies and suggestions, if not the only one, on how to approach the situation. Some of the monsters are relentless and down right nasty, and "Things" happen fast. Without knowing what weapons and tools to have kept in reserve, and where to find them, there was no dealing with some of these opponents. Still got slaughtered over and over, but with the guide book, at least I knew why so I could eventually get on with it.
