Biography

In 2005 Jonathan Coulton dropped out of a perfectly good software career to write music on the internet. He embarked upon a bold experiment called Thing a Week, in which he home-recorded and released a new song every week for an entire year, giving them all away for free. Even he thought he was crazy. But while a struggling music industry fell to pieces over filesharing and shifting business… Read more in Amazon's Jonathan Coulton Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Re; Your Brains, worth the whole 15.00 for the album, September 26, 2007
This review is from: Thing a Week Two (Audio CD)
The song Re: Your Brains is worth the price of the Album and you get so many more hits like: Chiron Beta Prime, I Will, Stroller Town.

His music fits the times we are living in. Where a Beach Boys type song is turned into a song about baby strollers or my favorite (Re: Your Brains) about Zombies in the office world and all that want to do is eat your brains... Which in large part is true... Anyone can relate with lyrics like "Here's an FYI, your all gonna die screaming" Now tell me that is not an office job.

You'll love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Note to self: Buy this CD!, December 10, 2006

This review is from: Thing a Week Two (Audio CD)
I first discovered Jonathan's music a year ago. In fact, it was Flickr, the title track to this CD, that first caught my attention. Flickr was first released as a video and is a song about a series of un-related pictures off of the public domain photo sharing Flickr website. Absolute brilliance! Thing a Week was a project where Jonathan generated one new piece of music every week, for a year. I think he even quit his day job to do it. He recently finished and Thing a Week Two is the second CD in this four part series.

The thing I enjoy about Jonathan's music is his originality and penchant for intelligent humor. A lot of songs could easily be really good "songs"...however, a close listen to the lyrics will have you bent over laughing. His hilarious perspective on life coupled with his obvious musical talent makes Jonathan Coulton a force to be reckoned with.

The gems on this CD are Flickr; Dance, Soterios Johnson, Dance; Chiron Beta Prime (An outer space Christmas tale); Stroller Town (A Beach Boysesque tune on...strollers!); Re: Your Brains (A hilarious and incredibly catchy song about reasonable zombies). Jonathan even covers the Beatles', I Will, and does a really good take on Rick Springfield's Don't talk to Strangers.

Do yourself a favor and discover Jonathan Coulton. You will be glad you did!
