Product Description

Amazon.com Review

A hammock for the hip, the Brazilian Amazona is a paragon of relaxation, comfort, and quality. Its weatherized woven cotton body comes in a natural color striped with blue and features hand-braided fringe. Stretching 7 feet long by 4 feet, 6 inches wide, the cotton bed is cool and soft; the price is right; and the midafternoon floating is, well, dreamy.

Product Description

Originated in Ceara, the Northern State of Brazil. Woven from select quality fibers and decorated with the most complex macrame fringes. All of our hammocks are several grades higher than those commercially available in Brazil.

4.0 out of 5 stars A relaxing Hammock, June 14, 2000

This is a really fine hammock. I bought mine two months ago for a hundred bucks for this exact model. It's really sturdy but be carful to tie between two HEAVY trees. It is my first hammock and I find that I'm lounging more often in it than in my lawn chair.

4.0 out of 5 stars Answer to Another reviewer, May 23, 2002

This review is from: Omni Swings n' Things 537 Brazilian Amazona Hammock (Lawn & Patio)
I had to smile after reading the reviewer from Ohio complain about this hammock. She doesn't know how to use a Brazilian hammock! Of course, what she described is exactly what happens if you tie it too tight, and sit with your head towards one end of it, and your feet towards the other tying end of it (as you would do if it were a bed).
However, the correct way to use a hammock like this is to have it a little loose, so that it arches nicely towards the ground, and then either sit traversing the hammock (perpedicular to it), or, what I think is more comfortable, in a diagonal position. So, your own body has the function of the slats she missed.
It can be very comfortable if you know how to use it (some people sleep only in these in Brazil). If you are planning on flying to Ceara (which is a beautiful, sunny state in the northeastern Atlantic coast), wait a little to buy this hammock there. While I guess this price here is ok for buying in the US, local shops and street fair vendors have it for much less.

I searched many sites to find an affordable hammock that was also durable. I was replacing a hammock that was brought back from Panama, and wanted equal craftsmanship, not the uncomfortable & awkward braided type. Most others I saw were $60 - $160. This hammock is perfect for lazing around off my back porch. My 3 year old won't stay out of it! You didn't have it in stock for Mother's Day, so I kept it for myself when it did finally come in. Thanks again for one of life's simple pleasures that us parents seems to miss out on ~ relaxation!
