5.0 out of 5 stars Get Refreshed With These Sody Poppers, September 5, 2007
This review is from: Things Go Better With Coke (Audio CD)
Just as the previous review indicates - 63 Coke jingles peformed by various pop stars of the day (1965-69). While it is true each of the ads underscores the "Things Go Better With Coke" campaign that was central to Coca-Cola's advertising effort during this time, I believe in contrast to to the previous review that each of the ads is personalized to mimic a hit song of the performer or was produced to create something truly original beyond the tagline that the artist makes their own. In other words, these jingles aren't primarily designed to just fill time, and can actually work as a song on its own merits (again, overlooking the fact that each cut comes back to the "Things Go Better With Coke" tagline) In this age of pre-packaged, surveyed advertising campaigns and even pop & rock groups, this makes this disc a very interesting listen in my opinion.

I particularly like the jingles cut by the Troggs, Freddie Cannon, The Easybeats, Roby Orbison, and Jan & Dean, if that gives one a flavor of who's on this disc.

Finally, in this age of the iPod, this is a fun disc to have in order to create a playlist that places several of these jingles between other songs of the era (you're as the 60s AM radio deejay). Beyond that, its semi-legal status gives it a collectability factor! Worth buying if you can find a deal for it.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Things Go Better With Coke (Audio CD)
The CD is great in that it is a blast from the past but the CD is missing 4 selections and the last one is a Pepsi commercial. Good grief - this CD is about Coke. How dare someone put a Pepsi product in with a Coke. Selection 58 is Jay & the Techniques, 59 is Jay and the Techniques, 60 is Come Alive (Pepsi commercial). No Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrill. This annamoly should have been mentioned before buying. I checked with other sellers since my purchase and they tell me that the CD looks legit but it has wrong selections near the end. Buyer beware!

3.0 out of 5 stars Personally, I'm a Pepsi man., November 17, 2006

This is a collection of Coca-Cola commercials from the 1960s. Coke got a bunch of singers who were popular with young people to record jingles for them. The jingles are actually 60 or 90 second songs, which happen to mention Coca-Cola in the lyrics. Every song features the lyrics, "Things go better with Coca-Cola. Things go better with Coke.", but they are all completely different other than that. Performers with two or three tracks on this CD recorded two or three different jingles for Coke. Many of the recordings here are actually good, but it gets repetitive listening to over an hour of Coke commercials.
