5.0 out of 5 stars Must read for Cardinal fans May 7, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
As a lifelong Cardinal fan and member of The Society for American Baseball Research, I found this book to be excellent. I have a baseball book collection of over 1100 books, and this one is as good as there is. It is extremely well written and very organized and if it left anything out I certainly couldn't detect it. I have been a Cardinal fan for 45 years and there are memories on every page. It was like a slow walk through childhood and cardinals history at the same time. I don't know if non-Cardinal fans will enjoy it as much, but I would retitle this book " The Number 1 Must Read Book for Cardinall Fans Everywhere Before They Die." A great read.

Goold writes a highly readable and enjoyable primer on Cardinals history, culture, and trivia that no fan, old or new, should miss. It's broken up into 100 short, fun essays that make for good light reading or to use as a trivia guide. Goold is a good writer, not just in his style but also an intelligent writer who understands what the moments and people in his essays really represent. There's not enough space to be really in-depth, but for the fan, if this isn't a must-have for the bookshelf, it's certainly a valuable addition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must read for Cards fans October 23, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
By the time I finished, I did not have a dry eye. I laughed, I cried, I cheered.

Goold covers just about every important player and event in St. Louis Cardinals history be it the Stan Musial Society or all the numbers retired in team history. Whether it's the good times like all the World Series wins or the sad times such as when we lost DK or said farewell to Busch in 2005, Cards fans will appreciate this book.

I HIGHLY recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Capturing the Essence of Cardinal Baseball June 4, 2010
Format:Paperback
For any fan of the St Louis Cardinals, there are so many rich memories worth capturing; some may be uniquely personal to the individual, or shared by tens of thousands of rabid Redbird rooters around the world. No matter how you slice it, Cardinal baseball is a way of life for so many; it's ingrained in our psyches, and for the most part, we wouldn't want it any other way.

For the author, Derrick Goold, he set out to list the top 100 things any true Cardinal fan should know or do; it's all right here in its historic spendor to savor. Whether it relates to the all-time Cardinal, Stan Musial, or the future king, Albert Pujols, Goold covers it all in an engaging and detailed perspective that any fan will surely cherish. I loved it and if you like Cardinal baseball as much as I do, you'll love it too.
