5.0 out of 5 stars A cute book full of useful tips for the college fresman girl
This is a darling little book that makes a perfect gift for a little sister heading off to college for the first time..."from a big sister who's been there." Covering everything from frat boys to finances, classes to Cliff's Notes, this is a cute litle guide for the first big year of college.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Cute - No Substance
Honestly, this book is in love with its own cuteness. Not only is it tiny (yes, you get very little physical book for the money), it just isn't very helpful. I purchased this book as a graduation gift earlier this year, and decided not to give it. The pages are filled with absolute drivel. Honestly, this book is in love with its own cuteness. Not only is it tiny (yes, you get very little physical book for the money), it just isn't very helpful. I purchased this book as a graduation gift earlier this year, and decided not to give it. The pages are filled with absolute drivel. I bought an entire set of how to survive college books as part of a gift basket.

The better books (in no particular order) would include:
(All are available from Amazon.com)

* Confessions of a College Freshman (ISBN: 1589196600 ) - a good solid read with heart felt advice.

* College 101: The Book Your College Does Not Want You To Read (ISBN: 0966412206) The fact that college professionals panned it - should tell you something -- it is HONEST. Not to mention downright hilarious. The author holds back nothing! A very insightful author reveals the dirt on higher education.

* Been There, Should've Done That (ISBN: 0965608611) - just honest to goodness truth and common sense. Good practical advice, and well thought out. It is a quick, easy, but well worth reading book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Oh, please....., February 7, 2005
This review is from: 101 Things a College Girl Should Know (Paperback)
Honestly, it is just amazing to me that an author can make money from a publication (I refuse to even refer to this as a "book") with the kind of obvious advice that amounts to "Be careful at night, study hard and eat all your vegatables". Don't waste your money on this, this book can be read in 5 minutes in any store without paying for it. Several other reviewers have recommended more helpful and meaty sources of helpful advice for the college student and I concur. Pass this one up.

2.0 out of 5 stars cute book, but..., March 20, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: 101 Things a College Girl Should Know (Paperback)
This is a really cute book, but upon opening it the disappointment was great. It reminds me of those 101 things to do in a bathroom type of lists that are passed around in emails; the advices were THAT short and many were common sense, about 10 advices in the book actually were helpful but those would easily have been found in other books. If you're looking for a college prep guide, don't waste your money. If you just want a cute book to give as presents, then by all means...

1.0 out of 5 stars Just plain bad, April 10, 2005
This review is from: 101 Things a College Girl Should Know (Paperback)
This book is a joke. I bought it for my daughter's high school graduation (coming up this June). I wanted to give her something besides a card with money in it.

Gosh, where do I begin. First, this book is small, no wait - TINY. Second each page has one item on it. You receive such pearls of wisdom as,"Don't Be Afraid to Cry" -- at over $35,000 a semester, trust me, I am the one who should be crying.

I have looked at almost every book in this genre. Although it is biased towards guys, College 101: The Book Your College Does Not Want You To Read, is by far the superior book. At least the author puts in real advice.

3.0 out of 5 stars cute, but a waste of money, September 5, 2000

This tiny little book has one "thing a college girl should know" on each page. The advice is certainly not groundbreaking, but it is rather fun to read. The only problem is that, as each page contains only one sentence, the book can be read in about five minutes. To me, five minutes of reading are not worth the $5 price. If you are looking for a book to help you out in college, or need a high school graduation present for someone, may I recommend the much more complete and valuable "The Real Freshman Handbook" by Jennifer Hanson or "College Survival" by Greg Gottesman and Daniel Baer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointingly slim volume of rather obvious hints, July 31, 1999

A bit of a waste of time really. The tips offered are rather obvious and not particularly insightful. Not much content.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very practical and funny!, February 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 101 Things a College Girl Should Know (Paperback)
My older sister sent this to me out of the generosity of her heart. I read all the way through it and I just love it. I took it to school and showed as many girls as I could, and they all enjoyed it too. It's really a must, and it makes a great gift. If I wasn't the youngest child, I'd get one for my younger sibling.

1.0 out of 5 stars I should have read the reviews first, August 22, 2006

My mistake, I should have read the customer reviews before I spent $6.95 on this silly little book. I was so irritated upon opening my box from Amazon but I realized it was my fault for not scrolling down to see what other said about it. It takes about two minutes to read and even though the advice is good it isn't worth the money at all.
