Sweet and Sour Sox Moments,
By
This review is from: 100 Things Red Sox Fans Should Know and Do Before They Die (100 Things...Fans Should Know) (Hardcover)
It is no secret that I am a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox, and that I read voraciously about them (and about many other topics, as well!) So, Christmas and birthdays often bring gifts of Red Sox-related books. This holiday season was no exception. I was pleased to receive Nick Cafardo's recent book highlighting the 100 top things a Red Sox fan should experience and know about the team.
For me, reading Cafardo's literary confection was a quick and amusing walk down memory lane, remembering the sights, sounds and smells of trips to Fenway in the past, and re-visiting the exploits of players from the past 100 years of Red Sox history. For the casual fan, this book will provide some new information and interesting insights. For the more ardent fans among Red Sox Nation, the book will serve as a handy guidebook through the museum of personal memories. I enjoyed the book in part because it helped me to reheat and taste again some of the sweet and sour moments that the Red Sox have dished out in my lifetime of following this wondrous team and franchise. Enjoy. Al

I love the Boston Red Sox and make no bones about it. If you know somebody who is a Red Sox fan, then this is an ideal gift.
This power-packed book provides a lot of very interesting information about the Red Sox and regardless of which teams you support, you will certainly find new reasons to appreciate the Red Sox. Go, Boston! Readers are treated to the history of this incredible team and you can hear the crack of bats and the roar of the crowd at Boston's Fenway Park. You get to stand at the plate with some memorable players and enjoy the ultimate baseball experience. Regardless of whether you are an inveterate fan or just a fair weather fan, you will still find the information this book provides interesting. If you are part of Red Sox Nation, then you want this book as your tour guide. Go, Boston! I love this book and I enjoy savoring memories of good games and two recent Series victories in 2004 and 2007. This wonderful book will hit a home run into the hearts of those who read it. I am proud to say, GO, BOSTON! Just read this book. You'll be glad you did.

Red Sox Fan,
This review is from: 100 Things Red Sox Fans Should Know and Do Before They Die (100 Things...Fans Should Know) (Hardcover)
This is a great book. Most of the things in the book a Die Hard Fan would probably know but it is great reading, well written and a perfect way to wile away a summer afternoon.

Nick Carfardo has written a book that most Red Sox fans will find not just highly readable but very enjoyable. It does have the weakness of skewing towards to last 25 years or so depending on when Carfardo started to cover the Sox. In doing this he tends to downplay some of the earlier history of the team in favor of events that took place more recently. Old time Hall of Fame Red Sox players barely draw a mention, most of all is how little is mentioned of Cy Young who still holds most team records in pitching.
One of the other great mysteries is how he avoids some of the greater personalities on the team for lesser ones. Johnny Damon is treated as a god like character in the book yet Bill Lee and Luis Tiant, two far better players and wonderful characters barely draw a mention. All in all a good book just comes up short in some areas.
