Victoria Klein is a freelance writer, amateur photographer, and creative dabbler. Along with a regular yoga practice & running regimen, you'll find her reading, cooking, baking, bicycling, contemplating new tattoos, learning how to be a military wife (Marine Corps, Ooh-Rah!), and looking for more ways to live sustainably (& with less stuff).

Her newest endeavor: taking a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training course + beginning a Yoga teaching career in 2012.

Thanks to Twitter I discovered this great little book. As a teacher and devoted student of yoga I am always picking up books to expand my inner library. I also try to read as much as I can so I can recommend books to my students that would be appropriate for them.

What I like about Victoria Klein's book is how clear and simply put the text is; that's not to say it's over simplified, it's not. She has really taken care to break down the fundamental aspects of yoga into 27 easily digestible sections in terms that everyone can understand. To me it's like a Frommer's traveler's guide for someone new to yoga.

Here are some specific features of the book I like:

'-It's 175 pages in a nice size font (no need for my readers!) that could be read in one rainy day. Or if you're like me with little snippets of time over the course of a few days.

'-An excellent definition of what yoga is and what yoga is not in modern language.

'-Class etiquette is covered in no uncertain terms.

'-Your health and safety are discussed along with an emphasis on the fact that yoga is not to replace medical care.

'-The 8 Limbs, Sanskrit, and philosophy are discussed giving more depth to the thought of yoga is just a physical pursuit.

'-In the 27th section Victoria Klein provides an excellent list of books, magazines, websites, and teachers to further research.

As a teacher I would definitely recommend this book to any new students to looking to deepen their studies. It also a great resource for people who haven't yet tried yoga who are curious as to what yoga is all about.
