PreSchool-K-- As he did in Willy the Wimp and Gorilla (both Knopf, 1985), Browne will again captivate preschoolers with his charming chimp, simple sentences, and colorful, action-filled illustrations. In I Like Books, a young chimp shows readers fat and thin books, funny and scary books, alphabet and counting books, and others. Each uncluttered illustration is surrounded by a thin-line frame with a small detail from the picture at each corner. Things I Like includes activities most children will have experienced or hope to: dressing up, kicking a ball, wading in the sea (wearing waterwings, of course). The very youngest will relate to Things I Like, while a slightly more sophisticated level of understanding is needed to fully comprehend the relationship between the adjective describing the books and the illustrations, although . . . I've been a big fan of Anthony Browne long before our two year old son was born. I forgot that I had this book and decided to see what our son thought of it. He can't get enough of it! The text is very simple but the illustrations are lots of fun. They are much less complex than some of Mr. Browne's other books but just as lovely to look at. I think our son can relate to the the situations in the book. It's a great book for parents too because the illustrations are really fun. I keep noticing little details even though we read this over and over and over and over!

I am a pre-k teacher and this book is a great introduction to what kids like. I use it at the beginning of the year and have the kids draw a picture of what they like to do. There's a limited amount of text on each page and the illustrations are adorable!

I bought this book for my 11-month old Grandson who is fascinated by monkeys. He loves the book and wants me to read it over and over to him, explaining everything on each page from the color of the monkey's shoes to what he is doing and why it's fun. This small book is well-made but does not have the thick cardboard pages of most baby books. I have to hold it for him as we read, making it a sweet Grandpa-Grandson moment. I can't recommend this book highly enough.
