5.0 out of 5 stars None better than Sparks! The rarest and most excellent find!, July 4, 2008

I cannot speak highly enough of this guy. I have read probably 30 of his books, including this one, and I am constantly giving praise to Jesus for this brother. I think, next to Paul, this brother had the most fantastic revelatory understanding, and a great, great writer, too!

This books, Things of the Spirit, is so excellent. I just most highly recommend another read, prior to this one - "What is Man?" by Sparks. It's included in a volume known as "Spiritual Foundations", which is a volume of 6 books of his.

What is Man?, will you give clear understanding to the mysteries of the walk in Jesus. It unlocks the deepest meaning to everything - namely, that what God calls carnal, or fleshly, is that which is done by man's natural man, or man's soul. The Body, and Soul, are two different things, but as far as God is concerned, they comprise the flesh. Man also has a spirit. The spirit of the man, and it is man's spirit that gets born-again. The soul, henceforth, must be crucified. The soul is the chief enemy of God, and man will find the soul always fighting with his born-again spirit. These are at odds with one another.

Now, skip forward to this book, Things of the Spirit, and Sparks takes 7 individuals from the book of Genesis, to illustrate how their disastrous mistakes, when they operated from their souls, as opposed to the instruction given them by God direct, Who is Spirit. God is the Father of our spirits, and His communion is with the spirit of man, not man's soul!

These 7 individuals' lives: Adam, Abraham, Abel, Noah, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph, are opened up and shown to you, the reader, very practical and extraordinary wisdom to show us how the walk with God, must be by His Spirit, and not our own thinking.

You cannot go wrong with anything Sparks wrote! I love C.S. Lewis, but to be honest, Sparks took me further in my growth than anybody. A truly anointed teacher from the Holy Spirit, unlike anybody.

This review is from: Things of the Spirit (Works of T. Austin-Sparks) (Paperback)
As with all of T. Austin-Sparks' books, "Things of the Spirit" is a key resource to understanding the deeper aspects of the Christian walk. Well written and very interesting, Sparks leads us on his usual path to knowledge regarding what Christ provides to those who seek Him. If you are looking for greater understanding and praying for enlightenment and revelation, you should add this book to your quest.
