5.0 out of 5 stars More than the literal ...., August 26, 2005

This review is from: The Things They Carried (Hardcover)
Tim O'Brien is a talented writer. In The Things They Carried he fictionalizes events that he and the members of his company experienced in Vietnam. The book is a series of short stories that can be read individually or together in any order. More than the items that each man carried in his rucksack or pocket ... the soldiers of Vietnam carried emotions and memories that they will continue to carry for the rest of their lives.

A very moving and real look at the events of Vietnam from the eyes of a soldier .... I strongly recommend this book for those who are serving or those who have loved ones serving in Iraq.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Things They Carried (Hardcover)
In the Novel..The Things They Carried.....it talks about, in the first few pages, that the men carried items that reminded them of their loved ones so that they could remember their loved ones while they were out fighting in the war. In novel it shows courage, bravness, and some cowardness as men died and killed people

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst read ever!!, November 2, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Things They Carried (Hardcover)
This book isn't really one of the best choices for a war story. It's way too philosophically written and the way it goes from story to story makes it somewhat hard to follow at times. For a war story it is way too drawn out and I can't seem to find a point to the story. It isn't your typical war story, this book is a collection of them put together to form one big story. Unless you're a die hard war book fan, this book may not be you.
