A good source of inspiration for managers, September 16, 1999
This review is from: 80 Things You Must Do to Be a Great Boss (Paperback)
As a former senior manager in a Fortune 500 company, one of my personal goals was to help my direct reports to become better managers, and to help in that process I'd give a copy of David Freemantle's to each new manager. As a business consultant, my clients often turn to me to help develop leadership development programs for their managers, and this book serves as one of my sources of inspiration. This book, when combined with action plans and measurement systems makes for a powerful way to systematically make new managers more effective. Excellent - a realistic, common-sense approach, June 12, 2001
This review is from: 80 Things You Must Do to Be a Great Boss (Paperback)
If you are the kind of person who feels like punching someone when you hear stupid management-speak like "people-centred leadership" then you will love this book!
Here is an author who offers useful advice but who doesn't try to redefine the obvious with American management consultancy jargon. His approach is that good management is about common sense and the difficulties in APPLYING it. All 80 points are brief and easy to understand but, like most common-sense ideas, can take a lifetime to fully conquer.
