I saw the authors on good morning america and got a few recipes from the gma website. i really liked the pizza which i made last night and my kids devoured. the book gives you a mix of history, information, science and recipes. the authors have a nice tone which is at times funny and the recipe instructions are pretty easy to follow. if you're looking for ways to mix more superfoods into your meals and into your kids meals, i totally recommend this book.

This book arrived yesterday and today I made the roasted garlic and tomato soup for lunch, which was both easy and delicious. As a boy I wasn't taught to cook, and over the years I've read cookbooks and made various recipes from them in my quest to learn, but this is the first book that appears a perfect fit for both the way I want to live and the ingredients that always seem to be on hand. That the recipes are easy and quick are added bonuses!
I'm a devotee of Michael Pollan's philosophy of food and eating, and this book seems to be a perfect compliment to it. "Eat food. Mostly plants. Not too much." What could be simpler? When paired with this book, my answer is: nothing.

This book is pretty good in terms of explaining the foods it focuses on and the recipes are quite innovative for the most part using easy to find ingredients, however as someone who loves to cook, has flair in the kitchen and is very health conscious too there are some things that I did not find appealing about this book at all.
First off the recipes do require some legwork for the most part to create. Second of all they are the kind of recipes that you would need to, for the most part, plan out ahead of time. You must read through them to see that you: have all ingredients, and have: all apparatus needed for making them. Thirdly - it's not overly family friendly as there is a lot of call for spicyness which in most instances I think removing the spicy factor would probably affect outcome. Fourthly there is no nutritional information listed for any of these recipes. As someone who knows how to easily modify accordingly it's not a big deal. However for people who don't know the difference between nutritious in a robust/let's focus on health versus let's focus on trimming down, this book could lend itself to being a diet disaster. Yes things like olive oils etc. are healthy BUT if you eat too much of it, it will make you FAT. Lastly there is not one single picture of what any of this food looks like. So not a thing to tickle your fancy into actually cooking any of it besides actually sitting and reading through the whole thing first and doing your best to VISUALIZE.

Although the recipes are tasty, you may want to look elsewhere if you already know about "super foods". The book is heavy on info and light on actual recipes (some of which call for exotic foods and can be a bit quirky). That being said, I gave it 4 stars because I have liked everything I've tried so far.

I just received the book and tried to read some of the recipes. I'm a senior and have fairly good vision but I found the print in this book difficult to read. Someone that is color blind might not be able to read this at all. The print is all done in blue and mostly light blue. After a day of looking at the computer, my eyesight isn't what it used to be. Recipes are great from what I can tell but print is not so great.

Bodyconomics 101: Walking Small
What a wonderful book! I saw it dicussed on GMA and immediately ordered it. It did not disappoint. It's simple, yet interesting and informative, charming, yet serious, and not overdone. It's now my favorite book-of-food and I will make it a point to get all 10 of these items in my diet on a regular basis. I love the use of olive oil and other 'substitutes' that I greatly believe in. This is not a "rigid health" book... there's sugar, lamb, chocolate, etc., which makes this the realistic kind of [simple] healthy cooking I've been searching for. Although a few of the ingredients and terms surpass my extremely limited culinary finesse, I'm sure my 7-year-old niece can straighten me out. This was a must-have book for me and it goes perfectly with my workout.

This book is not only informative, but fun to read as well. Use of humor is peppered throughout the narratives on each topic. The information is easy to understand without being "dumbed-down". Everyone should read this book. I even bought a copy for my Aunt!

I recently began trying a vegatarian diet and this book was a real help in recipes as well as insight into the types of foods I was interested in. It has helped me slip gradually into a different way of viewing the foods I eat.

I got this book from the library, as I test most cookbooks this way before I purchase and 10 things you need to eat is a must buy for me and my family. I power cooked last night making Quinoa Meatballs from page 114, The Better Burgers made with Lentils and "Refried beans" from page 133 in the Giant Chicken and "refried" Lentil Quesadillas recipe. All turned out very tasty. I made small patties with the Better Burger recipe and put them on split dinner rolls with a ½ slice of American cheese for mini burgers for my small boys, they ate them up! My husband loved the Quinoa meatballs which I broiled making for a nice crunchy outside with a light moist interior. The refried lentils were tasty and a healthy alternative to the regular fat filled canned refried beans I usually use. I will be adjusting the spices to suit my family and will not be going back to canned beans. AND all the recipes were very easy to make. We are anxious to try several of the other recipes, my husband has requested Pickled Cabbage and Onions, and we will be making these this week. I recommend this book to all families trying to eat healthier!
