4.0 out of 5 stars Great Folk Album
In a genre where it is hard to stand out Jay Nash makes it look easy. With a voice deeper then most folk artists its easy to see why it only takes a few seconds for Nash to catch you by the ear. 1.0 out of 5 stars Singer/Songwriter with nothing to say
By far less than average for the genre, which is my favorite genre. Very disappointing. This was the first album of his I've heard, and I assure you it will be the last. There are so many excellent acoustic singer/songwriters out there, don't waste your money on Nash.

In a genre where it is hard to stand out Jay Nash makes it look easy. With a voice deeper then most folk artists its easy to see why it only takes a few seconds for Nash to catch you by the ear. Nash is a show booking, sound board working man turned acoustic/alt-country artist. Nash show's that his knowledge and work in the music business has left him with a strong background for creating his own music.

For a folk album "The Things You Think You Need" is very strong and has a lot of depth. It covers about every corner of acoustic/alt-country there is to cover. "Sweet Talking Liar" has a Ryan Adams Feel to it that is very accessible for lots of people. One of the stand out tracks is "Barcelona", which showcases Nash's vocal range and ends with some chilling back up vocals courtesy of Sara Barielles. "Keep On Talking" is a perfect example of what the Wallflowers would of sounded like if they didn't have Jakob Dylan holding down the front man spot. If nothing of the above has caught your interest,"Over You" channels a Joshua Radin vibe that fits nicely into the whole mix of things.

The diversity of this record is really what makes it stand out. If you don't like a certain song there is a good chance that you will love another. In the end "The Things You Think You Need" appears to be a simple folk album, but in all reality it has a lot of great songs that exceeds the basic folk layout greatly.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is my best friend., March 19, 2009

I heard Jay when he was opening for another artist and fell in love with his voice. And his lyrics. He's one of the few artists I could listen to all day. This CD has such variety -- a little folk, a little blues, a little country, a little rock...but every song carries me away to a lovely place. You know how most of your CDs have a couple songs you could do without? Not this one. Don't take any of my Jay songs away. I love each one in a different way.

I also saw Jay for the first time when going to see another artist perform. Usually I don't pay much attention to the opening acts but this guy caught me by surprise! He has a wonderful voice and style and I instantly became a fan. His cd is filled with great songs that his warm voice delivers very well. Try it, you'll like it!

I first saw Jay Nash when he opened for another singer I had come to see. Jay blew me away from the first song. His voice has depth and warmth. His lyrics are mature and his guitar-playing is first rate. I bought this CD that night at the club [he signed it for me, and could not have been any more gracious], and it has been in heavy rotation on my IPod and in my car ever since. I can't get his songs out of my head. It is beyond me how this young man is not a huge star.

His style is hard to describe: a mix of acoustic and folk, with a soul and sensuality that will pierce your heart. He will remind people a little bit of John Mayer or maybe Jason Mraz, but with a style all his own. I am not one to gush over most music, but I can't recommend this CD or Jay's music enough. I was introduced to Jay Nash's music when Rhapsody recommended that I may like him. They were correct. Ironically, this album is not available on Rhapsody?
