Book Description

The last thing successful businesswoman Samantha Jones envisions is her beloved grandmother in a nursing home - and having to fly to remote Gabriola Island to care for her orphaned infant niece. But family is as important to Samantha as her job with Cal Tremaine, and she’s determined not to let instant motherhood interrupt her career … until headstrong Cal offers something more tempting.

Cal’s rapidly growing software empire owes a lot to Samantha’s skills, and he isn’t about to let her get away. Yet when Cal gets his first look at Samantha away from the office, he realizes that he wants her to think of him as more than just her boss - he wants her to see him as a man. Suddenly he’s offering Samantha a business marriage that will satisfy the judge in gaining custody of her niece, but what he really wants is Samantha as his true wife … in every sense of the word.

About the Author

Vanessa Grant's love affair with writing fiction began during a protracted illness at the age of 12 when she decided to write a novel of her own, sitting up in bed using the typewriter she'd been given for her birthday. Not a computer, not an electric typewriter, but a then-state-of-the-art manual typewriter. The story, a romance, ground to a halt on page 50 but Vanessa never forgot the excitement of bringing her own characters to life. She later wrote three unpublished novels, developing her skills as a writer while living on a remote lighthouse during what she thinks of as her baby-making, basket weaving, beach-walking days.
In 1985 Vanessa's novel Pacific Disturbance was published in hardcover by Mills and Boon. She now has over 10 million books sold and has been translated into 15 languages. She also has written what one critic described as, "by far the best writing book I've ever read." Writing Romance, published by Self Counsel Press, won the Under the Covers Best Writing Book Award, and is currently in its third edition.
Over the years her love of storytelling and her curiosity about people led Vanessa to study psychology, volunteer on a crisis line, complete individual and relationship counselor training, volunteer as a peer counselor for a family life organization, and tell stories about life, love, and secrets. Vanessa is also an accountant, a university professor, a publisher of educational materials and eBooks, and a popular international speaker with considerable media experience.
Vanessa and her husband have lived on an island in the Pacific Northwest since returning from a two year sailing cruise to Mexico some years ago. Vanessa loves hearing from readers and from other writers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended February 22, 2001
By C. Penn
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Successful businesswoman Samantha Jones gets the emergency call just minutes before an important meeting with her boss, Cal Tremaine. Her sixty-nine-year-old grandmother has had custody of Kippy since the baby's parents died just before Christmas. Now her grandmother is hospitalized, and her niece placed in temporary foster care. Somehow Samantha must balance Cal's substantial staffing needs and her own personal crisis.
When the call comes, Samantha knows it would be irresponsible to walk out forty-eight hours before the massive screening process at a recruitment open house. She hadn't come aboard Cal's company for the generous salary, but for the promise of a seat on the board after two years if she does an effective job. Walking now would jeopardize her goals, and make her personal life very public. Samantha has maintained a strict distinction between the two, not even telling her boss about her sister's death five months ago. The careful distinction allows Samantha to remain in perfect control of her life; something she refuses to give up. But control has suddenly been wrenched from her grasp by way of circumstance, and Samantha doesn't quite know how to cope. Especially when Cal insists upon helping.
Cal's fascinated and impressed by the woman who put his company in shape. After being burned by his previous partner, Cal had been hesitant to bring in high level help, but Samantha had quickly demonstrated her proficiency at organizing and delegating, making a remarkable difference in the success of the company. Samantha seems to have no personal life, spending eighteen hours a day on work if needed. He admired her ambition and drive, and believed her too valuable to risk a temporary romance, despite his attraction.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unlikeable Heroine October 22, 2012
By Audra
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm going to get straight to the point here. I don't usually write reviews, but if I were considering purchasing this title, I would want to know. The heroine of this story is extremely unpleasant to read. She's an uptight control freak, which wouldn't normally be a problem for me, except that her narrative is equally uptight and unpleasant to the point of making her unlikeable and the novel itself stressful. This book is very well written, but I'm at the 65% point and I just can't take the gloom any more. I feel sorry for the hero. I can't take any more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good plot, well written... October 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a well written book. The plot was nicely developed and flowed well. The hero was every women's dream guy. Handsome, sensitive, loving and caring. The heroine was a different story. She was an uptight, bitter control freak. She was constantly rude and insensitive to the hero. I did not like her at all and couldn't believe he put up with her emotional detachment for as long as he did. If you can overlook a distasteful character like this then it is worth reading.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good premises, boring execution October 29, 2012
By true
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I liked the beginning of the story, but after 2/4 of the reading the book became repetitive and boring. In particular, Sam's character became annoying. The likeability of the two main characters was further compromised by the last turn taken by the story. The logic and the heart should have advised them, as a young couple, to look after a baby and not to leave her with an old woman, no matters how healthy she can be. In conclusion, at the end of the story Cal and Sam strike like selfish, self-centered beings, not at all my favorite blend of romantic characters.

3.0 out of 5 stars The heroine really got on my nerves November 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the book and loved the H but what stopped this book from being great was the irritating h. I must say that the author would have done well to lighten her up a bit earlier on in the book. I was in danger of not caring at the end.

Slightly predictable, but well written romance. It kept my attention throughout. The author made me care about the characters. I will be purchasing other books by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Think About Love September 5, 2013
By SeeMuse
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was such a sweet romance. I really enjoyed it. I really felt like I was inside Sammantha's head. You feel all of her hopes fears and neurotic misgivings while she resists falling in love or loosing control with Cal.
The love scenes were some of the best I have read in a long time. There was so much tension that I felt like I was on the edge of my seat while reading it.
I will look for more from this author and would recommend reading it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read - but not great.
Book was an easy read. Character were likeable but not loveable. Main female character was stubborn to the point that it was irritating. Ending to me was somewhat predictable.

4.0 out of 5 stars I really liked it
A business relationship turns into a marriage.
The concept is a bit old fashioned, but strangely it works.
Enjoy the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice romance
This is a nice reading, well written but do not think it is realistic. I liked it very much as an escapist reading. I had a very nice moment with this book. Read more
