Book Description

January 2, 2004
Description: WELCOME TO AMERICA -- WASH OUR DISHES, CLEAN OUR CLOTHES, NOW GO HOME. / INCOME GAP - AN AMERICAN CLASSIC / YOUR BODY IS ALSO A PLAYGROUND / WHAT IF A STRAIGHT MAN GOT BASHED EVERY TIME QUEERS FELT THREATENED BY HETEROSEXUALS? A Brief History of Outrage documents the public interventions and agitprop of Think Again (David John Attyah and S.A. Bachman) an artist-activist collaborative that recruits artmaking in the service of political action. The above slogans have appeared on Think Again's mural-sized posters, mobile billboards and postcards, all of which were deployed in places that catch the public eye. Treading a fine line between critique and action, and employing the graphic strategies of the advertising industry while subverting their lingo, Think Again wages a visual war against political indifference. Featuring 52 color photographs and digital collages that tackle a full array of political issues, from race justice to structural violence against women, from hate crimes to the war on terrorism. Remember: ADVERTISING WORKS BECAUSE YOU DON'T THINK IT DOES.

5.0 out of 5 stars A rare raging gem..., April 5, 2004

A great compilation of the work of artists collaborative THINK AGAIN with a visual essay on economic, political and cultural trends in the U.S. and globally. THINK AGAIN takes on a wide range of political issues and the book allows us to retrace recent history and see how these artists have reconstituted popular visual lexicons to interpret this period. It's beautiful enough to be a coffee table book and may even inspire you to put down your coffee and take some action.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, slick political art!, March 25, 2004

This review is from: Think Again: A Brief History Of Outrage (Paperback)
Got this book from a friend and really, it's awesome. The book is a collection of political posters and other projects, and will definitely appeal to anyone left-of-center. If you like Ad Busters or Michael Moore, you'll LOVE this book. There's work on economic justice, activism, hate crimes, and anti-war stuff. It's a must have if you're feeling depressed by the Bush-era.

It's full color, and will definitely prompt a lot of conversation to anyone who you show it too. I use it to talk my conservative friends into having better politics.
