The world is full of problems and conflicts. So why can we not solve them? According to Edward de Bono, current thinking cannot solve world problems because current thinking is itself the problem. And this is getting worse: we are so accustomed to readily available information online that we search immediately for the answers rather than thinking about them. Our minds function like trying to drive a car using only one wheel. There's nothing wrong with that one wheelconventional thinkingbut we could all get a lot further if we used all four. De Bono examines why we think the way we do from a historical perspective and uses some of his famous thinking techniques combined with new ideas to show us how to change the way we think. If we strengthen our ability and raise our thinking level, other areas of our lifeboth personal and business successwill improve. De Bono is the master of the original big "concept" book and his enticement to us to use our minds as constructively as possible should appeal to a whole new generation of fans.

About the Author
Edward de Bono studied at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar and has held appointments at the universities of Oxford, London, Cambridge, and Harvard. In 1967, de Bono invented the now commonly used term "lateral thinking" and his name has since become a symbol of creativity and new thinking. He has written numerous books including Lateral Thinking and Six Thinking Hats.
Dr. Edward de Bono is regarded as the leading international authority in the field of conceptual thinking and also the direct teaching of thinking as a skill. He originated the concept of "lateral thinking," which is now officially recognized in the Oxford English Dictionary-and which contributed to the success of the 1984 Olympic Games. He was a Rhodes Scholar at oxford and has held faculty appointments at the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, London, and Harvard.
He has written twenty-seven books, which have been translated into twenty languages. These include: Opportunities; Lateral Thinking for Management; Future Positive; Atlas of Management Thinking; Wordpower; Children Solve Problems; Tactics: The Art and Science of Success; Conflicts: A Better Way to Resolve Them. He has also made a ten-part BBC series called "De Bono's Thinking Course" and two other television series.
Dr. de Bono's instruction in thinking has been sought by many of the largest corporations in USA, Canada, Europe, and the rest of the world. These include: IM, Exxon, Shell, BP, Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Prudential, General Foods, Bell Telephone, Northern Telecom, Monsanto, DuPont, and ICI. He has given seminars all over the world, from Helsinki to Buenos Aires, from Toronto to Tokyo.
By all means I truly appreciate the author's great ideas of Lateral Thinking, Six Thinking Hats and so on. However, as somebody who had read most of his books, I am obliged to complain that this is quite a bad summary of his previous great work. For those who had not read any book of the author beforehand, this is marginally okay but I assure you still need to get back to his other books for practical details. For old fans like me, you will not be satisfied at all. To paraphrase, "To paraphrase William James one of the author's favorite philosopher's sayings, "You can describe something this way or that. In the end, what matters is the cash/practical value. pg20" In short, dont buy this book. Check his others. I hope my advice is not too late.
Yes little disappointed the book is presented, compare what and how previously books are written. But I am a great fan of De Bono and this book will not stop me buying his other books in the future.
I had heard about De Bono and lateral thinking but never read any of his books. I found this book to be so exciting because he gives an overall picture of his many ideas and they are all so relevant to today's world, I just kept nodding my head and saying "I agree". I can appreciate the opinions of two of the other reviewers, they are old fans of De Bono and have probably heard it all before. However De Bono needs to be continually searching for new converts and a book like this does just that. Sure, I shall need to refer to his earlier books for more detail but it is the broad sweep of ideas presented in this book that makes me want to learn more. So for anyone who would like to have some knowledge of what this man has contributed to thinking over about 40 years, buy this book, it is clear, concise, easy to read and reread, money well spent.
The cover of "Think!" got my attention. Apparently the author has put a long time of his life to understand the meaning of thinking. The book has a lot of suggestions on how thinking must be learned and taught. It does though repeat every aspect too may times and I felt it was just for the sake of filling the book. At the beginning there are a lot of creative improvements methods. I found them very attractive and worth acquiring.
- The random nouns idea is fantastic - The six hats method seems a great way of debating an idea.
Although the book wasn't that attractive I'll probably read more of De-Bonos books as the small thinking methods seems different but working.
Very typical De Bono and well worth listening to (at least twice - more is better). Although you may not feel as though any thing "specific" has been learned, this audio really stimulates thinking about how we should be thinking. I agree with De Bono that learning to think is just as important if not more important than learning facts ie gaining information. Through learning to think and think laterally, we become more creative. In this new age of doing business it is more important to be creative than to be competitive.
