Here we have another winner from the folks at ThinkFun. My 9 year old received this toy yesterday; I have played it a bit and found it quite challenging even at the "advanced" level (it goes up higher to "expert"). The premise of the game is straightforward. You have 9 chocolates in three colors and three shapes; you are given clues as to how to place them in the "chocolate box". Not as easy as one might think! There is a spiral notebook of sets of clues with various difficulty levels. My 9 year old will do ok with the "beginner" and "intermediate" levels; the "advanced" level will challenge her but each card sort of guides the user's thinking to the next step. "Expert" will be hard for my 9 year old. A nice feature for parents/users is that this is a one person game. Or at least it's intended to be. There's no reason why two people couldn't work through a puzzle together; it would be a great way to use teamwork and share the logical thought process. But it's nice to have a game for kids that doesn't require a partner since a friend is not always around and a parent is not always available to play. But this is not just a kid's game. It should provide quite a bit of enjoyment to adults. A great way to keep the mind sharp! Like other ThinkFun games, all the pieces fit nicely in a cloth bag; so nice not to have yet another bulky broken box on the toyshelf.

I'm a bit outside the suggested age range (at 43) but I really enjoyed this delightful puzzle. My kids have enjoyed other ThinkFun products, especially Rush Hour, River Crossing, and Tip Over, but this one I bought for me. It is almost like a 3-dimensional logic puzzle, in which placements are deduced using clues and elimination. It would make a fun coffee table accent as well. And best of all, no calories!

No it's not tic tac toe - but this beautiful game stands on its own...,

This toy stops people in their tracks. The chocolates are so luscious and cute, people are always curious about the game, and the first thing they ask is, "Is it tic tac toe?"
Well, no, given that there are 3 colors and not 2 but who's counting :) In this game, you are given clues and must figure out where to place the chocolates. For example, the clue might tell you (visually, not with words) all of the chocolates in the first row are pink, and all of the chocolates in the first column are circles. You use that information to determine that the pink circle chocolate belongs in the top left space. It is very similar to Gridworks, although not as good for travel (Gridworks uses magnets). This game comes with a spiral notebook instead of cards like most ThinkFun games, and I really like that -- it makes for easier clean up and reduces the chance of losing/misplacing individual cards (which we often do -- we have over a dozen ThinkFun games tossed in a basket and none of them has a full deck of cards). Well anyway, this is a beautiful little game, lots of fun to play, highly recommended.
