Product Description

Editorial Review

Based on the ancient game of tangrams, Shape by Shape is the quietly absorbing game of fitting 14 pieces inside a puzzle frame. Not as simple as it sounds, players are challenged to match the image on each of 60 cards using six red pieces to form the card's subject and eight yellow pieces to form its background. If needed, hints on the back of each card will aid the player. In addition to the 60 puzzles provided there are 27,268 ways to arrange the pieces inside the puzzle frame. Children who can draw up a master list will be well on their way to brilliant careers in math or engineering. This compact, nicely designed game includes a plastic drawer below the puzzle frame to hold the cards. --Wendy Slotboom

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun for anyone who likes puzzles and brain teasers, December 17, 2006
This review is from: ThinkFun Shape By Shape (Toy)
I bought this as a party favor for my daughter's 5th year-old birthday. She loves tangrams and this is just an extension. Her friends have also enjoyed this and some parents have mentioned that their children cannot put this down. It is ideally suited for those who love to solve puzzles and have an affinity for spatial relationships.

This game, along with the other ThinkFun games (Brick by Brick, Square by Square, etc.) are WONDERFUL. They include challenging puzzles for kids and adults alike, and are great brain-building tools. The games are all made from a very durable hard plastic, many of which come with a slide out tray underneath to store the "puzzle" cards in. The puzzles include hints and solutions on the opposing side in case you get stuck. I would definitely recommend these to anyone who likes a challenge, as well as to those parents who are looking for a truly "educational" game for their child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and fun, as a good child's toy should be, December 9, 2007

My 6 year old son just received this toy for the holidays. Both my wife and I played it with him last night, and we all enjoyed it. It's durable and well-engineered to fit compactly together. The puzzles are a nice degree of difficulty for a 6 year old, not to mention fun and challenging for adults. This is because the number of pieces is just right, not too many or too few, and the use of two primary colors to define a red figure inside a yellow background gives enough visual information to solve the puzzles with just a little persistence.

This was fun to play together my son, but I suspect it will also keep him busy on car trips or other times when he wants to figure out the puzzles himself.
