Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Kimbro has tailored this deft rewriting of Napoleon Hill's ever-popular classic Think and Grow Rich (1937) to a black audience. Addressing issues like racism and poverty that can affect the achievement of black Americans, he offers a quick tour through black history, highlighting the stories of successful contemporary African Americans like Oprah Winfrey and publisher John Johnson. It works on the same level that the original did and should generate demand among African American patrons. An essential purchase for most institutional libraries, where all self-help books are in high demand.

From Booklist

Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich and Law of Success, in their many various versions, have sold millions of copies. Some time after his death in 1970, it was reported that Hill had left an unfinished manuscript targeting black America with his message of self-confidence and affirmative outlook. Kimbro, a black writer and lecturer for the Napoleon Hill Foundation, adapted and updated Hill's manuscript, which argues that such barriers as racism, discrimination, and lack of opportunity should not be self-defeating obstacles. 5.0 out of 5 stars Be The Best "You" Possible, September 1, 2003
Those were Wally Amos's words. And this book is an excellent source to help you to get there.

While I have read the original book, "Think and Grow Rich, by Napolean Hill,12 times, I believe that this is an excellent book to read, in addition to the original, for all races, and in particular African-Americans.

Writing a book that targets the black audience, as this book does may lead readers to ask, "Why 'we' or 'they' need something different, or special?

This is analogous to asking, "Why do they need a Black networking group?"

And my answer, as is the essense of Dr. Kimbro's answer, is that someone who is not African-American does not have the same challenges as an African-American has; therefore, identifying the resources, problems and possibilities, via a book, and networking that targets African-American, is an excellent way to answer the questions that Napoleon Hill couldn't answer on a level that Kimbro could answer - combining direct experiences, and research makes for an excellent source to the secrets of success.

5.0 out of 5 stars the ultimate checkup from the neck up!, May 10, 2003

Think and grow rich a black choice is excellent in preparing african americans for success. It doesn't take the reader all the way you will still have to add other books to your library like BLUEPRINT FOR BLACK POWER BY AMOS WILSON and BLACK LABOR WHITE WEALTH to kind of balance out your personality. Let's face it you need to strongly desire your goal like a starving man desires food but desire alone does not guarantee success. You also need to know how to anticipate problems before they come up. You should have at least 3 back up plans. Dont give up on your ultimate goals but just be prepared to take the detour road if you have to.
