Book Description

July 6, 1999
Do you know who you are?

Dr. Carlos Warter, the esteemed physician, psychotherapist, and healer whose charismatic lectures and workshops around the world have led untold thousands to rediscover their essential selves, now shares his prescription for achieving physical health and emotional joy.

Do you know why you get sick?

In today's society, it is all too easy to believe that we are our outer identities--that we are spouse or lover, child or parent, worker or artist, victim or addict. But now Dr. Warter, drawing on the age-old wisdom of the world's major religions, his own illuminating life experiences, and his consultations with the Dalai Lama and other great spiritual leaders, shows that in order to heal, to become whole, to become ourselves, we must go beyond the small, self-constructed circles of identity that we assume each day. For it is our very attachment to these false, limiting personalities that leads to chronic stress and disease...while keeping us from recognizing our greatest treasure: our sacred selves.

In Who Do You Think You Are? Dr. Warter offers the tools--from Buddhist prayers to original meditations--that can help us reconnect with our authentic selves. And he presents the other profound precepts of his new model of healing. Discover:

why any transition--birth, illness, death, or, indeed, any kind of change--can be a springboard for personal and spiritual evolution
how combining the use of modern medicine and alternative therapies with the power of an open heart and divine love can bring us to a place of unconditional wellness
how living in the moment results in greater awareness, a reduction in stress, and the development of real self-esteem

Who Do You Think You Are? is an important new addition to the latest literature on the healing of the mind, body, and spirit--one that provides a major breakthrough in how we view the world, ourselves, and all humanity.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

"For many of us on earth, the primary task is to remember how well we really are," writes Warter (Recovery of the Sacred). In an engagingly clear style, Warter calls on various religious sources and experiences in order to address the issues of personal identity and how it influences people and their surroundings. Warter claims that many of us, living out "nafs"?the Sufi word for false, temporary identities?lose connection with our spiritual "essence," our true identity. Nafs include all kinds of outer and inner ways people think of themselves: as mother, father, worker, boss, beauty, doctor, addict, enabler, victim; Warter says that there are even cultural nafs, such as of science and progress. Recovering the sacred self or essence, according to Warter, whose outlook has been shaped by his years as a student of the Sufi teacher Indries Shah, among other spiritual teachers, involves learning not to lose ourselves in our many temporary and partial nafs, not to mistake our parts for the whole. Using a pyramid metaphor of the earth level and upward through 3rd, 4th and 5th dimensional levels, Warter urges us to adopt the "interdimensional viewpoint" of essence, reconnecting with "the open energies of the fourth and fifth dimension," energies that are to be found in compassion and empathy, respectively. This elevation to a higher perspective is Warter's method for healing virtually all human ills. Defining health as "wholeness rooted in realizing essential identity," in this intriguing, well-written book Warter teaches "choosing the path of heart" rather than of head, "surrendering to heaven and earth" and using the "healing energies of core values."

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but pretty basic material, January 7, 2009
This review is from: Who Do You Think You Are? The Healing Power of Your Sacred Self (Paperback)
As one who reads most any book that pertains to finding your true self, this book came recommended. Along the lines of books written by authors like Arnold Patent, Dyer, Redfield, Katie, and Tolle this book shares the timeless truths of non duality. However, most of the book is pretty basic and IMHO not that well written. I'm not saying it's all bad, you can never hear enough that you should live in the now and work on your forgiveness-it's just been said I think better in other books.

This book, filled with wisdom, wit and powerful meditations will bring you to a deeper understanding of who you are. The provocative title of the book is reiterated throughout the chapters in different ways, relationship, job, stress and health, until you are questioning the very nature of who you are. This book was written with Love and intended to open your heart and mind to new possibilities of who you really are.
