Biography

On the day Garbage gathered in Wisconsin to start work on their fourth record, they came up with the glittering and steely "Right Between the Eyes" in all of 30 minutes. Things would not go quite so well with BLEED LIKE ME again.

The band battled illness, surgery, creative disagreements, major life changes and-depending who you ask-either a break-up or a much-needed sabbatical. But nothing good… Read more in Amazon's Garbage Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Killing the fire and you kill the desire, October 21, 2001
This review is from: I Think I'm Paranoid, Pt. 1 (Audio CD)
All those other reviwers aren't lying, Deadwood is simply the best! It's still probably my favorite Garbage recording. Why it wasn't on Version 2.0 AND released as a single simply baffles me.

Afterglow is good too, very dark and mysterious, but can't even match Deadwood's perfection. And, of course, Garbage's I Think I'm Paranoid is present as well, which is probably one of their better-known songs, and is always a treat.

This is one Garbage's best singles, and they continue to include amazing b-sides which are often some of their best material (Trip My Wire, Soldier Through This, etc.)

If you're into Garbage, then with a doubt buy this and prepare yourself for the amazing listening experience which is, of course, is Deadwood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two New Tracks for the Die-Hard Garbage Fan, January 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: I Think I'm Paranoid, Pt. 1 (Audio CD)
This is a rockin' c.d. Well worth the price, because Garbage's B-sides are usually better than the recorded material on their full length albums. The two new songs are entitled "Deadwood" and "Afterglow". This disc also includes the single "I think I'm Paraniod" which is one of the better songs from "Version 2.0" All in all I would highly endorse this disc because if you are familar with this band and have seen them in concert, you should know that they DO play their B-sides in concert. It is really cool to know the lyrics to songs that 90% of the people at the concerts don't know even exist. Buy the disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Deadwood" better than anything on Version 2.0!, August 2, 1999
By
This review is from: I Think I'm Paranoid, Pt. 1 (Audio CD)
The second track on this single, "Deadwood", is a masterpiece pairing of sampled drum loops and Bowie-like acoustic guitars. It's about telling a lover that the "fire" is gone. Shirley Manson refers to the lover as "deadwood", and the chorus goes: "I don't need you anymore; I can't use you anymore." This song is better than any track on Version 2.0 (except for "Wicked Ways"). Why the hell didn't they put this on the album? The third track on this disc is "Afterglow", a bizarre, spooky track complete with an upright bass and a string section. The instrumentation is sparse, adding to the gloom of the song. It's about a stud who fizzles out and becomes a reclusive loser. Not too uplifting, but still a brilliant track. Wrapping it all up, this is a great single, well worth the money. It is impeccably produced, as we've some to expect from the genius of Butch Vig, who I think is the George Martin of the 90's. If you don't have this, get it!
