Book Description

July 6, 2005

J. R. Madaus is a computer network executive who found himself suddenly experiencing expanded states of consciousness that included out-of-body trips and spontaneous healings. Instead of ignoring or suppressing these "paranormal" experiences, he immersed himself in information on extraordinary phenomena, and took on a heroic quest.

His journey led him to the laboratories of frontier science, the theories of quantum physics, and the ancient wisdom traditions of the world. It led him, too, to a series of programs at places like The Monroe Institute and the Institute of HeartMath, which showed him how to let extraordinary events enrich his ordinary life.

Think Logically, Live Intuitively, his humorous and insightful account of his search, makes a powerful case that the key to a successful life is our ability to balance the knowledge, reason, and wisdom of the head with the desire, intuition, and passion of the heart.

More About the Author

After working as a university library dean and director for over twenty years, I am now employed in the world of large scale computer systems providing library automation services.

My avocation is the exploration of consciousness as described in my book: Think Logically, Live Intuitively. I believe that there is a great deal going on all the time at the macro and micro level and part of our job in this lifetime is to learn more about how all of these things are interconnected.

I have been blissfully married to my soulmate and best friend, Ms. Pamela for over 34 years which makes this journey not only worthwhile but an immense amount of fun.

I am currently working on my second book with a working title of Active Serenity that will explore not only continued explorations in consciousness, but the process of bringing the metaphysical into the here and now of physical reality.

I think that being willing to challenge our most basic belief systems and seek the interrelationship in all things is a key to the growth of our selves and our species. I also think that we should all regularly remind ourselves that enjoy means IN JOY, and we should do as much of that as humanly possible.

I'd love to hear from you at jrmbalance@aol.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Catch a Fire, July 28, 2008
This review is from: Think Logically, Live Intuitively: Seeking the Balance (Paperback)
Since Robert Monroe wrote "Journeys Out of the Body", the first and still greatest classic book on the out-of-body-experience (OBE), there's been a flood of me-too literature, some deriving directly from the Monroe Institute programs and researches and some just vaguely inspired by it. But the only book I consider the true successor to Monroe's epochal work is this one. It has that same shocking personal immediacy yet absolute credibility in detailing outlandish spiritual and energetic experiences, then goes further to view them in a far broader analytical context than anything Monroe could attempt (of course it's partly due to Monroe that we now have this richer field for discussion and reference).
TLLI consists of the diamonds of Madaus' fascinating personal work both at The Monroe Institute and elsewhere, with each gem fixed in a setting of gold - his linkups of whatever happens to him to scientific research and consultation with experts in medicine, psychology, and physics. But the fuse that blasts this work into an orbit way beyond run-of-the-mill OBE books is Madaus' unique ability to convey the intensity and immediacy of ultra-high energy spiritual states in totally accessible language. Reading this book, you totally "get" that the veil between the worlds is gossamer thin. No other book in this realm, no other book period, brings home that understanding with such fiery urgency.

5.0 out of 5 stars Consciousness Unveiling, September 16, 2005
This review is from: Think Logically, Live Intuitively: Seeking the Balance (Paperback)
What I feel is most important in this book is the authors willingness to show the creativity, complexity and potential of Human Consciousness.
Having read most of the books referenced in this work I find the references to be potent and timely in the text so as to assist others who may be having these experiences and to encourage us to be more open to our potential.
It seems his experiences were, in part, a result of his willingness to be open.
I have read many books of our modern mystics but I have never read such an account as what the author shares of his personal experiences.
Absolutely Incredible!!

3.0 out of 5 stars The real value of book is buried under quotes and fluff, September 1, 2005
By
Felix M (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Think Logically, Live Intuitively: Seeking the Balance (Paperback)
The value of this book is the author's experiences in altered states and healing. But unless you are brand new to new age types of books then the remainder is just fluff. Probably under pressure from the publisher, the author fills the book with large amounts of quotes from other people. I wouldn't be surprised if a good quarter of the book is made of quotes. The author even quotes *himself* at the end of every chapter.

Then, in typical new age fashion, the author adds in chapters of "what if..." and "the implications are astounding" and, of course, lots of use of the word "quantum". Unless all of this speculation on the what-if's is new to you, you will be bored to tears by much of the book.

It would have been better, though not as profitable, for the author to publish a series of articles detailing his experience with the Monroe Institute and Hearth Math. His experiences are worth reading, but this book is not worth the price. Buy it used or wait till you can find it in a library. He has a lot of interested things to relate.
