The instinctive response to any crisis or challenge is a predictable, hard-wired physiological reaction: the fight-or-flight response. The problem isn’t the response itself, the problem is using it in situations that don’t really warrant it. Moreover, when used too often this inappropriate stress response can have detrimental effects on both physical and mental health. By contrast, successful people and great leaders have learned to control their flight-or-flight reaction. They think for themselves, choosing empowering states of being instead of sinking into the prevailing negative state of their circumstances and the people around them. In Think or Sink, Gina Mollicone-Long shows readers how to gain control of their responses and produce powerful results. Rather than a book about what to think, it’s a book about how to think. By learning how to make good decisions, readers are able to not only meet challenges head on, but to benefit from them as well.

Gina Mollicone-Long is a one woman powerhouse who has spent the last 16 years trail-blazing new paths for the modern female entrepreneur. She is an expert on peak performance and the best-selling author of The Secret of Successful Failing. Her breadth of business experience ranges from big corporate to start-from-scratch entrepreneur; from high tech to not-for-profit. In each and every endeavour, personal or professional, Gina brings her ferocious energy and her firm belief that the "impossible" is always possible.
Gina lives her beliefs. Her outside-the-mold career started with an Honours Engineering degree from the University of Toronto. From there, was a non-linear leap to the corporate world, in brand management roles starting at Procter & Gamble and leading to Molson Breweries, where as Brand Manager she re-directed the brand and company culture. Next up was a senior strategic role with the NRG group, a high tech venture capital firm, where Gina worked in a fast-paced environment to help channel passion into entrepreneurial technology businesses. Her work with non-profits included being the Executive Director for proMOTION plus, which advocates gender equity in physical activity for girls and women as well as serving on various boards and committees.
During this time, she simultaneously launched her first business, Goddess Concepts, a personal development company that focuses on helping women and girls reveal their inherent brilliance. Goddess Concepts also helps organizations and individuals understand and leverage the unique perspective of girls and women. In 2009, Goddess Concepts will launch its biggest series ever called Awaken the PowHer.
In 2000, with her husband Andrew Long she co-founded two multi-national companies that focus on developing people in the workplace. Critical Pathfinders is a high performance team development and training company and Scavenger Hunt Anywhere runs corporate team building events in cities all over North America. Their programs are innovative, energetic and effective at increasing productivity. Their Fortune-500 clients include companies such as The Body Shop, Microsoft and KPMG among many others.
Her latest endeavour includes the upcoming launch of her new book called THINK or SINK - the one choice that changes everything, which is set to launch January 2010. Gina's first book, The Secret of Successful Failing soared to the #1 spot in its category on Amazon the day that it was launched in 2007. The Secret of Successful Failing shows readers how to leverage the power of crisis and adversity so that it actually becomes an advantage.
Since Gina believes that nothing is impossible she constantly sets herself challenges to overcome. For instance, she managed to get her self-described "anti-runner's" body over the finish line at the Nike Women's marathon in San Francisco (6 hours and 9 minutes of "challenges" but she did it!), conquered a long time fear of heights by plummeting earthward in one of the highest bungee jumps in the world and envisioned, planned and held her first girls conference called Planet Girl.
She manages all of this while being mom to her energetic children Molly and Simon, who have inherited their mom's enthusiasm and exuberance. She has also been a Big Sister since 1997 and currently volunteers much of her time with the Canadian Women's Foundation. She is a certified as a Master NLP Coach, a Master Practitioner of NLP, a Master Practitioner of Time Line Therapy(tm) and a board-certified Master Hypnotherapist. She is also certified as a Trainer of these techniques. There is no straight line with Gina; all of her varied experiences have shaped her unique perspective as an entrepreneur, speaker and human being. Being in Gina's presence is to feel the unstoppable force of her passion, excitement and most of all her ardent belief that others can achieve their "imPOSSIBLE" too.
Gina Mollicone-Long's Think or Sink was a pleasure to read. Think or Sink challenges readers with the question, "adversity or opportunity?" She is correct that it is all a matter of perspective. This thesis can be helpful to people who live the fast-paced New Yorker lifestyle or people who live in the most remote areas of suburbia because the fact of the matter is, anybody can achieve happiness so long as they have the right outlook on life.
I belong in the NYC category. There are times when something as simple as taking the subway induces a stress headache. Rush hour does get pretty bad sometimes. You feel guilty about snatching the nearest seat when a mother with a double-stroller walks in and then while you're standing amidst riders in what feels like a human sardine can, you're wondering when it will all end. Looking at Chapter Nine's "42 Things That Will Help You Shift", I'll remember to "breathe" through my headaches. From now on, I'll focus on my own breath rather than the breath of others on my neck, and turn up the iPod to listen to some of my favorite music. When there's nothing to do, but take pleasure in the sounds of your favorite band, their songs become all the more enjoyable.
Gina Mollicone-Long has written a superb book that addresses the fundamental difference between those who do achieve, and those who don't. The untapped potential of the mind and the intergration of the conscious and subconscious into our way of being is increasingly being recognised as the missing link in our application of success. This book addresses that statement.Do yourself a favour, buy the book. Read it, listen to its message and then take massive action on the power of its words.
I never realized how good life could be just by choosing it. It's simple and I am so glad I came across this book to wake me up and show me the way. Everyone should read it and if you love someone who is having trouble in their life -BUY it for them too.
