Ruth's first cookbook, DON'T TELL 'EM IT'S GOOD FOR 'EM (written with Nancy Baggett and Gloria Kaufer Greene), was ahead of its time in implementing low-fat nutritional guidelines and was nominated for a Tastemaker Award. SKINNY SOUPS, also written with Nancy Baggett, was a bestseller for Surrey Books. Ruth's skill in combining delicious recipes with an innovative, health-conscious approach to cooking is showcased in 100% PLEASURE, written with Nancy Baggett (Rodale Press). With almost 150,000 copies in print, it was named as one of the 12 best cookbooks of 1994 by USA Today.

Ruth is the former food editor of the Columbia Flier and was a health/nutrition columnist for Essence Magazine for four years. Her recipes have appeared in Diabetes Forecast, Family Circle, Mademoiselle, Weight Watchers, Shape, Essence Magazine, The Washington Post, and The Baltimore Sun.

In addition to her non-fiction, Ruth has written over 100 novels. Most of her fiction has been written
under the pseudonym Rebecca York, but early in her career she co-authored books using several other
pseudonyms, including Alyssa Howard, Alexis Hill, Alexis Hill Jordan, Tess Marlowe, Samantha Chase, and
Amanda Lee. She also co-authored several juvenile books under her own name.

Ruth has done numerous TV/radio interviews and cooking demonstrations and is profiled in Contemporary Authors, Who's Who of American Women, and Who's Who in America. She holds a B. A. in American Thought and Civilization from The George Washington University and an M. A. in American Studies from the University of Maryland.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not accurate in Title or description, February 25, 2004

Nancy E. Sajban (Windom, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Think-Thin One-Pot Meals (Hardcover)
What made me purchase this book is the title and back page description. I honestly thought it was a book on how to make delicious and nutritious ONE POT meals. Instead I found that the recipies required at least two pots and to me, that is false advertising. Perhaps this book is something you would like, but if you only want to have to use one pot, I'd look for something else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy recipes with nutritional information, January 5, 2012
This review is from: Think-Thin One-Pot Meals (Hardcover)
This book has recipes which are usually cooked and served in one dish. Another reviewer said that two pots were needed; well, yes, in some recipes one must use another dish, as when reserving meat while preparing sauce, etc.

There is a chapter on slow-cooker meals, one on vegetarian meals, and a wide variety of main dish entrees, including salads.

I've had this book for years and it has survived multiple cookbook-reduction campaigns on my bookshelf because the recipes are varied and easy to understand and prepare.
