5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Practice Staff, November 4, 2011
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought a different hardwood staff from some other online martial arts supply store a few years back. It was sturdy, but a bit on the heavy side. You couldn't really spin or swing it around very fast because of the weight. I've also played around with some other staffs that were super light, and felt like it was gonna fly out of my hands if I swung it too fast. It felt like you just had less control of the staff as a whole.

This staff, on the other hand, seems to be weighted just right. It's not too heavy, but not super light either. Has good speed, with good control, and seems very sturdy as well. Seems to be just right for practicing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid, not as light as rattan/bamboo, July 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My son has a regular bamboo bo staff and is getting ready for a longer one. I saw this and it seemed interesting, so I figured I'd get it and check out the 'engineered bamboo'.

Its well made, no problems with the wood. Came with a free backscratcher which is handy because my old plastic one just broke. Completely smooth exterior unlike bamboo's grain and ring 'bumps'. That makes it a little harder to handle and more likely to slip from your hand.

Its heavy, about 25% heavier than the bamboo. Not like you're holding a lead weight, we're talking a few ounces. But just a heads up that its going to be a little heavier than regular bamboo. Its also completely solid (as far as I can tell), except for a small hole drilled in each end. So you could cut it to reduce the length.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peaceful Bamboo, June 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
First to top off, this bo staff is outstandingly lightweight and tough (I can't really say it's tough since I got it today but it's a good speculation.) I originally got this staff for self protection, It helps you walk when your tired so I would consider this a wanderer's staff. This staff has a really nice relaxing smooth bamboo outer coating I can't tell if it's the bamboo or some kind of waxing. When it came, the wrapping was plastic but it had a nice gift I don't know what it is exactly but looks like a backscratching or a cooking utensil so that's nice and their business card says "Some items may be customized with your logo or company name, call for details and current lead times." So I'm going to see if I can put something on the staff but the big two benefits in buying this are Lightweight, Hard, I'm not a experienced Martial Art staffer but I am a martial artist.(14 year old.)
