ThinkTank Change Up Belt Pack

  • Can be used as a beltpack: The wide, supportive waist belt allows you to wear this belt pack either lower or higher on the front of your body, or even on the side of your hip. The choice is yours: whatever you prefer at that moment you are shooting
  • Use the shoulder strap for support: The chest/shoulder strap provided with the Change Up is a great way to support the weight of the bag, while allowing you to rotate the bag around your body. You can adjust the weight from your shoulder to your hips and move the bag along your waist with ease
  • Can be used as a shoulder bag: After tucking away the waist belt, one shoulder strap can be used so that it appears to be a regular shoulder bag. This is why it is called the "Change Up": it can appear to be used for one purpose and then changed very easily for another
  • Can be used with a chest harness: This close up shows how when both of the chest straps are attached the bag can be fully supported by both shoulders. Depending on what you are doing, this is another great alternative
  • Modulus components attach to belt: The "rails" on the waist belt allow the Modular components to be attached. In this photo, the Lens Drop In has been attached to allow quick switching of teleconverters. Depending on the size of the Modular component, one or two items can be attached per side rail

This style works great with Shapeshifter and Think Tank modular bags.

There are also Lycra-type stretchy pouches on both the front and sides, for things to grab quickly, like a pen, pad, cell phone, or a snack.

This feels good, carries the weight well and has the belt and two shoulder straps that can be used together or singly.

Change up! is a very versatile camera bag. It can be a belt pack, shoulder bag and also can be a chest bag by using provided harnesses.

    COMPARTMENT
Change Up has plenty compartments: Main compartment for camera, lenses and removable rain cover, two side stretch pockets for flash or bottle, rear compartment for book or iPad, front compartment for writing tools and accessories, one hidden pocket, and two front stretch pocket for lens caps.

    CAPACITY
Change Up! capacity is quite big. It has a removable padding and dividers can be configured according to your gear shape. When you use the bag for a short travel, you can fit in one digital SLR camera with short lens attached, plus two other lenses. As a lens bag, it can fit three to four lenses, including 70-200mm telephoto zoom with inverted lens hood.

In practice, I can load up to 4 kg /8.8 lbs gear (Nikon D700, Sigma 70-200mm, Sigma 24-70mm and Nikon 16-35mm) without any problem. However, I find 2-3 kg load is more ideal and comfortable to carry.

    REAL EXPERIENCE
I find using beltpack with one shoulder harness is the best, it is comfortable than beltpack because I can distribute some weight to my shoulder and in the same time support the beltpack.

If I carry a lighter load, for example one camera and one lens, I prefer belt pack or shoulder bag style. When I use it as shoulder bag, I prefer to use Think Tank Curve Comfort shoulder pad instead of shoulder pad supplied with Change Up, because it is wider and padded.

I don't like chest-bag style (with double harness) because it looks like military and I am not used to carry bag on the front of my belly. However, this style is the most comfortable because it distribute the weight evenly.

I'm a professional photojournalist and for years, many of us have used Mountainsmith Lumbar packs to carry our additional gear. With cameras slung over our shoulders, we just need a pack to carry an extra lens, teleconverter, batteries, and other accessories out of the way and easy to get to. This is an improvement over the mountainsmiths we've often used with great attention to detail and the ability to add additional pouches to the system. It has just enough padding to offer some protection without being too bulky. I particularly like that it is deep enough to (just barely) hold my 70-200 2.8 lens vertically without the hood. I also like that I frequently use it as a shoulder bag until I need to be on the move and then the waste pouch gets the weight off my shoulder. My only complaints are that the stretchy mesh sides are too small to carry a Nalgene bottle, and that that it's priced a bit higher than I think it should be.

I hate long reviews, so this won't be one. Think Tank products such as this Change Up are not so much a place to store your gear but a tool in and of themselves. Adaptable, expandable and just plain intuitive I found myself using feature built into the bag without thinking the first time I wore the bag. Definately a photographer's bag designed by photographer. Customer service is top notch, don't believe me call them or email them yourself. I would highly recommend them over other fine brands such as Tamrac, LowePro, Tenba, Kata etc. of which I own a few of. And no, I'm not an employee of Think Tank, just HIGHLY impresssed.
