5.0 out of 5 stars David Ball doesn't have a thinkin' problem with this album, September 17, 2000

"Thinkin' Problem" is a great album. While I was listening to it, I thought that David Ball sounded a little bit like George Jones the way he sings. There's not a bad song on this album. Some of the best ones are the title track, "Look What Followed Me Home," and "12-12-84." Most of these songs are about lost loves, and they're good ones at that. "When The Thought of You Catches Up With Me" is simply one of the best country songs I've ever heard.

If you like good, mellow country, I recommend getting this album. It probably won't disappoint you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy It, Buy It, Buy It!, January 23, 2005

I bought this used on Amazon for $0.99. I had never heard of David Ball before, but now, I want all his recordings! If you like George, Merle, Lefty, Keith Whitley, or Dwight, then this is YOUR kind of music and you are SURE to like David Ball! There is not one single cut on this cd which I skip over! Slow, fast, in between... you won't want to miss any. I gave it 5 stars only because I couldn't give it ten. Buy it! There is no question that you'll be glad you did!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Honky Tonk Country Music, November 21, 1999

If you want good honky tonk music from start to finish, buy this excellent David Ball album. Any song on the album could have been a bar room classic as some have: Thinkin' Problem & Look What Followed Me Home. An A1 ballad is also present: When The Thought Of You Catches Up With Me. Just great country music from probably the most overlooked country artist-David Ball.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic, February 16, 2007
This review is from: Thinkin Problem (Audio CD)
This is one of the greatest honkytonk CDs I've ever heard. When I first heard "Thinkin' Problem" on the radio in 1994, I instantly knew I had to have this CD. There's not a bad song in the bunch, from the rocking honkytonk songs to the ballads, especially the heartbreaking "12-12-84." I can't praise this CD enough; it's real, hard-core, twangy country.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very smooth and mellow...., September 13, 2003
This review is from: Thinkin Problem (Audio CD)
Every one of the songs on this album is classic honky tonk and will have you sitting listening for hours. I especially love "When the Thought of You Catches Up to Me" and "Thinkin' Problem". But I also love "12-12-84"...oh, ok, I love them all. David Ball's voice reaches a depth within that keeps me wanting more!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Hitter!, March 10, 2003
This review is from: Thinkin Problem (Audio CD)
I bought this when it first appeared and immediately liked it. This whole set is SOLID traditional c/w music. Ball's vocals remind me of a cross between George Jones and Jerry Lee Lewis. Each song on the set really stands on its own merit, with great vocals and great playing. I especially enjoy the up tempo numbers which are good, hardcore honkytonk! This is the best that Ball has put out,it all came together on this one.Pick it up,and enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Honky-tonkin' with some heaviness, September 18, 2001

Really nice trad-country, but with updated instrumentation. Ball has a pleasant voice and is a clever songwriter, but sometimes each of these traits can get the best of him. His diction is occasionally a little too, I don't know, practiced, and a few of the songs take a while to get past the novelty-wordplay stage, but this album sounds better--smarter, more interesting instrumentally, bluesier--to me now than when I first heard Ball in '96.

4.0 out of 5 stars About As Good As They Come, June 16, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

If honky tonk is what you're looking for, it doesn't get much better than David Ball. He's an extremely talented songwriter with the perfect honky tonk voice. Songs like "Look What Followed Me Home", "Blowin' Smoke", "Honky Tonk Healin'" & the title track are all first-rate. The only serious missteps in my opinion are the ballads, "When the Thought of You..." & "12-12-84". When he keeps things up-tempo, he's awfully hard to beat.
