Editorial Reviews

About the Artist
The artists on this CD may be new to you but each has been around for awhile and each have their own loyal fans that have appreciated them over a number of years. They were chosen for this project because of their obvious talent. In some cases it was their songwriting ability or the way in which they covered a Bob Dylan song. Or it may have been for the unusual arrangement or a signature honey 'n gravel voice. It was our goal to bring together various artists that all have their own sound and to display both their talent as singers and as songwriters; artists that we felt deserved to be heard by the world. We feel we've succeeded in that. Consider some of the comments from critics and others about these artists:

Re: Rex Foster - Chuck Pyle says, "Rex Foster has the four winds in his voice and Mother Earth in his heart, and when he puts it to music, I believe it" And C.J. Berkman of "The Redneck Poet" says, "He's as much a part of Texas music as Billy Joe Shaver or Townes Van Zandt."

Re: Jack Tannehill - Noteworthy songwriter, William Kitchens wrote, "Man...I don't write too many artists. I was just checking some stuff out from some people who had my stuff on their stations and found your stuff. Anyway, I'm listening to your music (stuff) right now and feel like music is OK again. Thanks for being!" And singer/songwriter/critic Serena Matthews left this in Jack's guestbook, "I can't remember the last time I have felt so high listening to a song. Your talent bedazzles me. How could I never have heard of you before?? It's an injustice to the world that more people don't know about you." Also one of Jack's songs, "Make It Easy" won first place in a song contest on June 24, 2002 at MakeAStar.com

Re: Danny Schmidt - James D. Graham of the Cville Weekly says,"His guitar playing is nothing short of superlative, and his calm gentle demeanor evokes the wisdom of an old-growth forest." And Bob Thiele of Nashville says, "He is hands down one of the best living musician/poets that I am aware of."

Re: Kate and Paul (aka Quarter Moon) - Ralph Litwin of Horses Sing None of It says, "Warm personalities, tight harmonies and sterling guitar show off well crafted melodies and lyrics." And Bill Nutt, Community Forum & WNTI DJ says of their first album, "The rhythms are diverse, the harmonies thrilling - all in all an auspicious first album."

Re: Will Hoppey - The Nebula Music Magazine said this about Will's album titled "Acoustic": "Hoppey echoes some of the best attributes of giants such as James Taylor..." And Songwriter’s Monthly had this to say, "Extremely talented. Will spins a tale equal in message and craft to Harry Chapin."

Re: Norman Lamont - One writer says, "Norman's lyrics are vivid with imagery and yet, never invasive. You want to hear them. You listen very hard. They've got that lovely unexpected twist that gives you a clear picture of a different point of view and, I'm happy to report.. there's NO PAIN! What a relief. Someone who sings about life that's not drenched in pain. It's just so interesting. Rich in observation expressed in colorful metaphor. Outward looking, not inward obsessing." Also in 2001 Norman was a runner-up at the String Jam Club's Musician of the Year competition and won the award for best song with The Ballad of Bob Dylan.

Further information can be found at the web sites of the individual artists each of which is accessible by using the artist name as the domain such as rexfoster.com etc.

Hope you enjoy listening to this CD as much as I enjoyed working on this project -- S. Sevek, IndieCDs Recording Group

Product Description
THINKING ABOUT BOB DYLAN is a mostly acoustic album of songs featuring six singer/songwriters with each performing one Bob Dylan Song and one song of their own.

If you like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Steve Forbert and similar artists or if you collect Bob Dylan songs sung by other artists, this CD is for you.

The first and last songs on the disc are original songs that mention Bob Dylan in the lyrics. Track number 1, the title track, was originally recorded and released in 1992 by Rex Foster on his release, ARTIST. An interesting true story tells how this song was playing on radio station KFAN in the San Antonio area one day when a fellow called up and said he was Bob Dylan and wanted to know where he could buy Rex's CD. To make a long story short -- later that morning the owner of the record store that carried the disc called the radio station to say, "Guess who was just in my store?" That's right! Bob Dylan bought Rex Foster's CD with the song called THINKIN' ABOUT BOB DYLAN. The final track on the disc, BALLAD OF BOB DYLAN, (sometimes simply called BOB DYLAN) is written and performed by Norman Lamont of Edinburgh, Scotland. Norman describes the song as "a story-song in the style of the Zim. An affectionate tribute - not a parody". Norman's songs stand out as the most different from the rest of the tracks on the disc and everytime I listen to this track, I just can't help but laugh. A good alternate title for this track could be, "Norman Lamont's 115th Dream". So off the wall, there is no doubt but that this is sheer fantasy unlike Rex Foster's story of Bob Dylan actually purchasing his CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thinking About Bob from the perspective of a muscian., April 25, 2004
By Kathleen Sobolewski (Hackettstown, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This is Kate, from Kate & Paul. I just would like to thank Amazon for posting this item for sale. It was a great collaborative project with fabulous singer songwriters from across the nation and the globe. Our haunting and emotional cover of "I Believe in You" was arranged by our bassist, Jim Gilheany, formerly of Kings in Disguise and Sonny Rhodes. It was recorded and produced by Gene Perla, a superb jazz performer who tours the world. Mandolin is performed by Jamie Coan, formerly of "From Good Homes". This four-piece collaboration is now called "Quarter Moon". Links for Quarter Moon bio and shows can be found on the kateandpaulband.com web site. We are in process of recording more songs over this year. "I Believe in You" has received heavy airplay on WDVR, Sergeantsville,NJ and WNTI, Hackettstown, NJ. Thank you to Steve Sevek of IndieCD's for pulling this all together! Enjoy the music, folks. kate

Just want to let everyone know that while Amazon has this album listed as "[explicit]" for the MP3 version, that is an error. THERE IS NOTHING EXPLICIT ABOUT THIS ALBUM.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting approach and collaboration but not exceptional, February 3, 2008
By Siriam (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I bought this out of general interest in Dylan cover compendiums having into double figures of such LPs and CDs in my collection. The interesting thing for me has always been how many artistes are better at interpreting the man's songs than himself and this selection has the added touch of songs by each participant as well as the Dylan contribution.

While it was clearly an enjoyable event for the arranger of the event (per the CD liner notes) and the performers based on the two attached reviews by participants, I fear I did not find the overall quality of performance or interpretation that great across the whole CD compared with the other Dylan compilation bought at the same time from Amazon ("Dylan Uncovered").

One for mainly manic Dylan collectors I fear.

When Steve approached me to contribute a couple of tracks, he didn't say anything about it being a country CD. So my Series of Dreams is anything but country! Read more
