I bought this out of general interest in Dylan cover compendiums having into double figures of such LPs and CDs in my collection. The interesting thing for me has always been how many artistes are better at interpreting the man's songs than himself and this selection has the added touch of songs by each participant as well as the Dylan contribution.
While it was clearly an enjoyable event for the arranger of the event (per the CD liner notes) and the performers based on the two attached reviews by participants, I fear I did not find the overall quality of performance or interpretation that great across the whole CD compared with the other Dylan compilation bought at the same time from Amazon ("Dylan Uncovered"). One for mainly manic Dylan collectors I fear.

Thinking About Bob from the perspective of a muscian.,

This is Kate, from Kate & Paul. I just would like to thank Amazon for posting this item for sale. It was a great collaborative project with fabulous singer songwriters from across the nation and the globe. Our haunting and emotional cover of "I Believe in You" was arranged by our bassist, Jim Gilheany, formerly of Kings in Disguise and Sonny Rhodes. It was recorded and produced by Gene Perla, a superb jazz performer who tours the world. Mandolin is performed by Jamie Coan, formerly of "From Good Homes". This four-piece collaboration is now called "Quarter Moon". Links for Quarter Moon bio and shows can be found on the kateandpaulband.com web site. We are in process of recording more songs over this year. "I Believe in You" has received heavy airplay on WDVR, Sergeantsville,NJ and WNTI, Hackettstown, NJ. Thank you to Steve Sevek of IndieCD's for pulling this all together! Enjoy the music, folks. kate

I produced this CD. I am not a record producer by any stretch of the imagination. But in today's world anyone can compile and release an album, even an album which includes cover songs. It isn't difficult to get the licensing etc. [It just involves a commitment to report sales and pay royalties]
I just wanted to say that this has been a learning experience for me. And I wanted to let any potential buyers know that this album is now out of print. Inventory is extremely limited. However on June 1, 2011 a new album was released which also features songs by Jack Tannehill and Will Hoppey along with Steve Lane. The new album is called If Not For You - A Tribute To Bob Dylan. If you collect Dylan songs covered by other artists, you may want to add this to your collection before it becomes very rare and possibly difficult to find. You can still find audio clips on the web if you search by the album's title.

When Steve approached me to contribute a couple of tracks, he didn't say anything about it being a country CD. So my Series of Dreams is anything but country! However I was well impressed with the musicianship and commitment of the other contributors and it's a fine album to be on. The familiar Dylan songs in unfamiliar arrangements are a good lead-in to the thoughtful and appealing original material. I hope this Amazon listing allows more Zim fans to enjoy this excellent collection.Norman Lamont (www.normanlamont.com) |
