A book full of wisdom & common sense about the Technique.,
By RMGardner1@aol.com (Sunnyvale, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thinking Aloud: Talks on Teaching the Alexander Technique (Hardcover)
This is my very favourite Alexander Technique book--I refer back to it over and over again! Thinking Aloud captures Walter Carrington's intelligent charm. Walter's many years of teaching the Technique & personal relationship with the late F.M. Alexander have given him a wealth of information and experience which he shares in own wonderfully unique style.

A thoughtful journey into the world of the body,
By A Customer
This review is from: Thinking Aloud: Talks on Teaching the Alexander Technique (Hardcover)
This tastefully designed hardcover represents a thoughtful journey into the world of the body and how it unerringly reflects our inner state. The text takes readers inside the philosophy and practice of this highly successful technique almost on a moment-by-moment basis; the writing is rich in subtlety with a superb appreciation for the fine detail. The lessons in the book address not just the specific act of teaching but the general act of living. One needn't be a bodywork junky to appreciate the extraordinary relationship between body and mind that the author eleganty reveals.

A gem worth repeated reading and reflection,
By Kevin Ahern (Kaneohe,HI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Thinking Aloud: Talks on Teaching the Alexander Technique (Hardcover)
This little gem of a book contains selected pieces by a man who has been thinking about the work he is discussing (The F.M. Alexander Technique) for over sixty years. He has also been consistently practicing and testing this thinking in his teaching and living over the same period. Two qualities of behavior most exemplified in these selected talks are persistence and kindness. The importance of both qualities in the work of human beings attempting to change for the better is investigated and discussed. Mr. Carrington's ability to "think aloud" coherently, spontaneously, and humorously is simultaneously enjoyable and educational.

A rare book that stimulates new thinking,
By A Customer
This review is from: Thinking Aloud: Talks on Teaching the Alexander Technique (Hardcover)
This is a thought-provoking book full of insights, every page a gem. This is not an introduction to the Alexander Technique, but for those with some experience and for the rare individual with no Alexander Technique background.

This is a must read for any student or teacher of the Alexander Technique. Simple and direct writing. Walter was a very kind gentleman and this comes through in all of his lectures on the Alexander Technique.

Carrington is amusing. But only read this after at least 15 lessons from an AmSAT or STAT certified teacher.
