Build your child's cognitive skills with fun and games!

.

Realistically speaking, teachers have only a few hours per day to actively teach our children reading, writing, and math. An involved parent can enhance that time in school and make it more productive, and evidence shows that children encouraged to learn at home make the best students in school.

.

Thinking Games for Kids offers you a unique way to get involved with your children's learning: play with them. In each game, your child will use basic skills in new ways to build a solid intellectual foundation. Some games are simple enough to be played while riding in a car, while others require materials and more room. And each one is more fun than the next. Simply put, this book will make your child want to learn.

.

This fully updated edition of the popular Thinking Games to Play with Your Child includes more games for older children and employs the latest brain research to help your child:

    .
  • Enhance comprehension and critical thinking
  • .
  • Clearly explain ideas and thoughts in writing
  • .
  • Improve memory through repetition and visualization
  • .
  • Understand the "language" of math
  • .
  • Develop phonemic awareness--a hot topic in schools today
.

We love to teach our children the techniques of hitting a baseball, kicking a soccer ball, and swimming in the pool. Now, you can have just as much fun helping develop their minds!

3.0 out of 5 stars Motivating Students, January 15, 2009
This review is from: Thinking Games for Kids (Paperback)
Good reference for educators. I was able to get more ideas on how to develop more effective lesson plans to motivate the students.

Helpful Notes:

If child is resilient, don't force the games on him.

Children with strong verbal skills and a solid foundation in reading are ready to succeed in the classroom, and that success will prepare them for the increasingly complex world in which we live.

By age of eight, child's measurable intelligence is developed.

Phonemic awareness significantly improves his success in learning to read.

English language contains 44 of these phonemes, combinations of them create all the words in the language.

Code of speech is needed to understand; words are made up of individual sounds; words have meanings (association);

Spoken word can be represented with printed symbols; symbols are written and can be read.

Phonemic awareness, the ability to hear and work with the sounds in words is an essential pre-reading skill. According to Keith Stanovich, a reading researcher, it is the best predictor of early reading acquisition, even better than IQ. Most reading specialists agree with him.
