5.0 out of 5 stars "one of the greatest singers of the '50s ~ Eddie Fisher", August 3, 2005
This review is from: Thinking of You / Bundle of Joy (Audio CD)
Collectables Records and RCA Victor presents "THINKING OF YOU" (1957) and "BUNDLE OF JOY" (1956), featuring Eddie Fisher son of Russian Jewish immigrants...the young crooner was a protégé of the famous comedian Eddie Cantor (If You Knew Susie Like I Know Susie)...during the '50s Mr. Fisher was RCA Victor's top-selling pop vocalist along with Perry Como and Elvis Presley...Eddie's signature song was "Any Time" which always opened his 15 minute TV Show called "Coke Time" (1953) and was universally the spokesman for the soft drink

Many of his popular hits from "Thinking of You" in alphabetical order are:
BRING BACK THE THRILL
HOW DO YOU SPEAK TO AN ANGEL (from the musical "Hazel Flagg")
I NEED YOU NOW
I'LL HOLD YOU IN MY HEART ('TILL I CAN HOLD YOU IN MY ARMS)
I'M WALKING BEHIND YOU
MY BLUE HEAVEN
OH MY PA-PA (from musical comedy "Fireworks")
THINKING OF YOU (from the film "Three Little Words")
TRUST IN ME
TURN BACK THE HANDS OF TIME
WHAT CAN I SAY AFTER I SAY I'M SORRY
WISH YOU WERE HERE (from the musical "Wish You Were Here")

Second part of the album is "Bundle of Joy", from the film of the same name featuring Eddie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, Adolphe Menjou, Tommy Noonan and Bill Goodwin...filming was done during the pregnancy of Debbie Reynolds with their first born Carrie Fisher....some of the highlights are "ALL ABOUT LOVE", "I NEVER FELT THIS WAY BEFORE", "LULLABY IN BLUE", "SOME DAY SOON" and "WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW TOMORROW", all composed by Josef Myrow and Mack Gordon with sparkling arrangements by Hugo Winterhalter with his 65 piece orchestra...nothing but the best for this musical outing.

Not bad for a kid born on August 10, 1928 from Philadelphia, PA...who could belt out a song with the best of them...finally a collection of tunes from my favorite singer when I was growing up in the midwest...nevermind his private life and the bad publicity, his talent was enormous and the songs where right from the heart...good to see this release, hope to see more of the same...gotta love it!

Total Time: 71:00 on 23 Tracks ~ Collectables Records 2835 ~ (4/02/2002)

Eddie Fisher- to many neophytes, he is remembered as either Carrie Fisher's dad or the guy who dumped Debbie Reynolds for Liz Taylor and was in turn dumped himself in one of the most scandalous affairs of the early sixties;
Ah, but Eddie was so much more than (just) those footnotes and a pretty face- a consummate performer and singer and fifties' hearthrob - possessed of a golden voice and charming singing style and a TV sensation with his own show- Coketime with Eddie Fisher.
This rare recording showcases many hit tunes of his era- "Thinking of You" and the classic "Oh My Papa (O Mein Papa)" as well as the delightful soundtrack from the movie he starred in with Debbie- "Bundle of Joy" a real treat. Though he had no real acting chops, the songs performed in the film- some extended and reprised on the soundtrack - are all winners and displayed a real twinkle in his voice (and the film is an oft-repeated holiday treat, filmed to capitolize on Hollywood's hottest couple at the time).
A must for any Fisher fan, or anyone just trying to get a glimpse of this talented singer.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Never Felt This Way Before, etc. al., October 8, 2006
This review is from: Thinking of You / Bundle of Joy (Audio CD)
This is the movie I could not get enough of when it was showing in the Tennessee Theatre and later on t.v. It is a great Christmas movie. "All About Love" and "Someday Soon" were the standouts of the movie, but "I Never Felt This WayBefore" showed an innocent Eddie, which was the opposite of what he actually way at that time. Debbie out-acted him as she was experienced (my, was she ever!) but she could not out-sing him ever. "Tammy" was a fluke. I have all three original albums, but I actually wrote to the movie studio wanting to buy the movie, was told they did not sell them to individuals. My, how times have changed! Eddie was so loveable, it's a shame it was all a sham, but so was their marriage on and off the screen.
