3.0 out of 5 stars Not sure how I like this thing, August 11, 2007
I was very excited to try on my new tablet sleeve for my Thinkpad X61 Tablet, and am kind of disappointed so far. It DOES fit like a glove, but it's so tight that it can be a royal pain to get in and out of the case. I figured I could use it as a normal case, out of tablet mode, but it seems that will be too much of a hassle. Also, although it protects the screen, the plastic cover doesn't feel close to as good to write on as the screen itself. One more annoyance is the zipper goes around 2 sides (basically a corner), which makes the opening extremely tight to squeeze the tablet in. If it were even 2 and a HALF sides (2 corners), it would slide right in, but with this design it's just plain aggravating.

Overall, I'd say this thing is nice, I just don't see myself using it as often as I had intended to. Hope this helps.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very difficult to use, September 5, 2007
By C. Bender (Denver, CO) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The sleeve is indeed too tight for the tablet, especially with the battery upgrade. I almost wondered if I was putting it in correctly at first. The flaps don't give adequate access to the ports on the side and are not centered over the ports either.

The only way I would use this if I was going to ALWAYS use it in Tablet mode, which most people won't. Even then I don't know how useful it would be.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well constructed expression of a questionable design, December 18, 2007
Pro:

Sturdy, well padded, very good interior fit. No obvious weak points in sewing.
Velcro side flaps protect the I/O ports.
A removable insert allows snug fitting for the tablet using either the standard or the extended battery.
An exterior elastic loop, wide and well sewn, securely holds an extra pen.
A Velcro-adjusted hand strap at the rear of case allows very secure but comfortable holding in tablet mode on arm.

Almost everything in the case's construction bespeaks reasonable ruggedness and sturdiness. Except for more extreme circumstances, it would be difficult to use this case without feeling the tablet is well protected.

Con:

Lenovo's website lists the weight of the case at 1.4 pounds. Not terrible, but a bit heavy for my tastes.

The firm interior fit is a touch *too* firm -- once inside the case, there's no lateral leeway to nudge the tablet buttons into the exterior openings. Maybe over time, the case will settle/stretch a bit, but out of the box the openings are about 1/8th inch off, half covering the device buttons.

Out of the box, the plastic sheet which covers the screen was lightly scratched; not terribly so, but noticeable.
This flap-plastic rides a bit too high above the tablet screen and has too much "give" -- it feels something like writing on a marshmallow.
That said, I have no problems inking, pressing for context menus, or hovering the cursor through the plastic sheet -- it simply feels a little creepy.
But if inking is not greatly affected, this extra room is too high to use efficiently, if at all, the touch capability on my dual-digitizer X61 -- only the most emphatic finger tapping registers any response from the touch screen.

Judging from the manual (which has no text except for warranty info; all instruction is through illustrations), the case will accommodate the tablet wearing an Ultrabase -- which I don't own. I would guess this explains the airspace between screen and flap. If so, a removable riser, similar to the removable battery-dummy would have been in order here. In a pinch, some strategically placed cardboard or other homemade riser would likely help.

As everyone else has noted, it's very difficult to insert/remove the tablet from this case because the zipper, for no discernibly good reason, does not completely open the flap. A user needs to practically shoehorn the tablet into the case through the overly narrow unzipped opening.
Worse than insertion is removal of the tablet from the case -- it takes so much grappling with the fingers, and it seems way too easy to accidentally bend the already innately wobbly screen of an X61.
Frankly, I worry more about damaging the laptop trying to insert/remove it than I would carrying it around without one. I will rarely use this case.

A zipper which doesn't allow a case flap to permit easy access makes a person wonder. It's a major problem with this otherwise good-to-excellent product. This case is less the "sleeve" it is marketed as, and more a fussy suit of light body armor. Body armor is fine for a bump-case; but the fussiness is enough to have made it a deal-killer had I seen it live prior to purchase.

definitely protect your touch screen from scratches, but the zip design needs improvement, it's a little hard to put the laptop in or out if you frequently switch. Read more
