Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Finally, the third epic from Battleore has arrived and Third Age of the Sun is fantasy metal so thoroughly heroic, J.R.R. Tolkein would most certainly approve! More sweeping than its two critically acclaimed predecessors, this new album is guaranteed to draw fans from all metal spectrums, as well as non metal ones obsessed with Middle Earth!

The Ltd. Edition includes bonus tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREETINGS FROM MIDDLE EARTH, January 15, 2006
Aside from this being an album lyrically inspired by all things doing with middle earth, how's the music? I'm here to say it is epic, at times blackish, infused with european folk instrumentation and melody. Oh, and it rocks. I love the mix of female operatic vocals mixed with black metal growls. Very nice production and performances by all involved, this is a way cool offering of Tolkien inspired fantasy black metal that will appeal to many fans of different forms of metal. It's mostly mid tempo with some neo-gothic moments and almost Celtic music in it's mix. If you like orcs, hobbits, elves and want to mix it in a stew of extreme metal this is highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy Metal from Finland, May 16, 2006
By Ari "Ari" (ny, usa) - See all my reviews
After checking out the videos and music clips on the band's website, www.battlelore.net , I ended up purchasing all of their albums and even bought the pal video from the end records. They've changed a few members but the music is a combination of growling and clean male vocals accented by a sweet sirens song. This stuff is just good fun from a bunch of tolkien nerds who engage in larps and read lots of fantasy novels. They even play their concerts in full costume. Recommended for anyone who likes fantasy metal.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great music but beware of the growls & grunts, February 20, 2007
Battlelore is a great metal band with excellent musicianship and terrific female vocals, and the album is a compelling metal-operatic fantasy based on Tolkein; unfortunately on all but one track the songs are ruined for me by (sorry, fans) the prominence of death metal styled grunted vocals, something I fail to see any attraction in. If you enjoy that sort of thing that you are sure to really enjoy this album; but if you find no pleasure in grunted, growling, roaring vocals, then steer clear. 2003's Sword's Song and 2006's Where The Shadows Lie seem to be less growlingly intrusive in the vocal department.
