5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I first read this book a few years ago. I gave my first issue to a member of our church. I wanted so much to read it again, I purchased another one. Believe it or not, I gave this one to someone also after I read it again. Now, I'm getting another copy to keep in my library. I have the desire to read it and the sequel "The Fourth Millenium". 2.0 out of 5 stars Better than LEFT BEHIND, but . . .
THE THIRD MILLENNIUM is better than the LEFT BEHIND series because it doesn't try to drag it out, but it's still a pretty poor attempt at depicting the end times of biblical prophecy. If you're looking for something that is incredibly exciting and biblically correct I recommend you take try THE CHRIST CLONE TRILOGY.

1.0 out of 5 stars Paul Meier should be flayed alive, January 15, 2001

Oh my, this was horrible.

Wow, powerfully bad.

I've never read such an awful regurtitation of poorly-contrived bilgewater. This was foul in the way a ruptured sewer main is, fetid in the way of a swamp full of rotting skunk cabbage, horrifying as you would be if you watched an entire graveyard of mouldering corpses was suddenly burped up from the ground.

I wouldn't recommend this, even as a way to inflict an agonizing, craze-enducing execution.

Good God, never let anything this bad ever soak up valuable paper resources.

1.0 out of 5 stars Truly terrible - don't waste your time., September 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Third Millenium: A Novel (Paperback)
I was hoping for a story that might realistically portray the next coming of Christ, but this isn't it. The Third Millennium is poorly written and simplistic beyond belief. Like this - the (evil) President of the United States decrees that all citizens will now carry ID cards starting with the digits 666, because that is his favorite number. Right, I'm sure that's how it's going to happen. And when the Chinese man says "ah so" I almost threw the book away. (Note to the author: without even mentioning your stereotyping, "ah so" is Japanese, not Chinese, you moron). This book is an embarrassment. If you're looking for an excellent millenium/second coming story read "The Last Day" by Glenn Kleier (easily 5 STARS!)

Believe it or not, I gave this one to someone also after I read it again. Now, I'm getting another copy to keep in my library. I have the desire to read it and the sequel "The Fourth Millenium". Even though it is written fictionally, there are many truths in it, regarding the end times. If you read your Bible along with it, it may just answer some questions to him or her who is seeking God. Excellent book.

5.0 out of 5 stars the first book I ever read, May 15, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Third Millenium: A Novel (Paperback)
I was 17 when I picked up this book and like my title reads it was the first book that i had ever read. (well at least the first with out pictures in it.) I was sitting on my couch looking for a show on the tv and I noticed this book on the shelf. I decided that since there wasn't anything else to do to read it. Let me tell you I have not read a book since that has captured me as much as this one. I thought that it was a beautiful book and I couldn't help but to keep turning the pages. I think that I read it in three days and I have not looked back since. I will tell you now that I don't know if I would like it if I went back and read it again but I can tell you that to me this will always be the greatest book in the world. and I might add that this is a perfect book for those who were like me. A new reader does not want to start with a 20 book seris. It is a self contained book even though they tried to make a second book, and it is an easy read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hilariously Bad, January 7, 2001
This review is from: The Third Millenium: A Novel (Paperback)
An absolute disaster -- ridiculous dialogue, often so transparently "expository" as to be laughable, characters with all the depth of a puddle, and the theological subtlety of a sledgehammer (when that theology wasn't twisted so badly as to be completely befuddling). What was this man thinking when he wrote this? I cringe to think that so many LOVE this book. Folks, this is the reason why Christian literature and arts get such a bad rap from the secular world -- not because of the message, but because it's usually, like this book, cheezy, self-righteous, breathlessly simplistic JUNK. I give it one star because it's so bad it made me laugh out loud a few times -- not a good sign.

I mean, what are the odds of ALL the "good football players" in the Rose Bowl being Raptured? Come on...

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor treatment of a potentially wonderful subject, February 12, 2001
This review is from: The Third Millenium: A Novel (Paperback)
This book tries, and for that alone, I'll give it an extra star. The author obviously has the best of intentions, but unfortunately, the effort doesn't translate into a novel that's readable. The characters are not recognizable human beings- they make June Cleaver seem like a complex, multi-faceted character. What's worse, there's no real theology that goes any deeper than, "God is good, you should worship Him." That's great, but when I read a book like this, I'm hoping to gain some new insight about both myself and my relationship to God. At the very least, I'm looking for a good story. There's none of that to be found here. Anyone looking for a novel about the Endtimes that succeeds where Meier's novel fails should check out We All Fall Down, by Brian Caldwell. It's insightful, enthraling, and will stick with you for months. Meier tries hard in this series, and doubtlessly has the best of intentions, but in all four of these books, his good intentions simply pave the way to a literary hell.

1.0 out of 5 stars Substandard Literature, December 20, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: The Third Millenium: A Novel (Paperback)
I hate to be a naysayer, but Paul Meier's book, THE THIRD MILLENIUM is trite and predictable. The Christian characters are insipid and lack dimension. If you are easily amused and like a book that you can read easily without engaging much of your mind, this may be for you. If you are tired of poor literature being passed off as GOOD in the Christian fiction genre, then you'll want to bypass this novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paul Meier's Third Millennium, August 15, 2007
This review is from: The Third Millenium: A Novel (Paperback)
One of the most impressionable books I have ever read. My copy is worn almost beyond recognition; having been read so many times. Paul's characters are real and fresh. He knows how to describe them so the reader feels intimate knowledge. That is a prime sign of a good writer.

Spine and spiritual chills are usually generated by the movie or tv media, but this book doesn't need other media to do it. When the Rapture occurs, many Christians believe it will happen just as written, thus the spiritual chills. Another scene I could relate to was the appearance of Moses and Iasiah and their calm demeanor as the world went to hell. While this book must be classed as fiction (aren't all novels?) I keep it on my Praise shelve with Billy Graham, Corrie tenBoom, Lucado, Lewis, Stanley, Bevere, Crouch, etc. etc.

A must read for any "Friend of God".

2.0 out of 5 stars A sincere, but bad book, April 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Third Millenium: A Novel (Paperback)
I actually mostly agree with the person refered to as the "idiot from Ohio." This book is very bad literature. It is choppy and in many places contrived. Manuscripts like these give Christian fiction a bad name, because it is so far from reality. I'm not talking about the Biblical imagery, but rather the very unrealistic way the people relate to each other.
