Good reference., January 10, 2007
This review is from: Third Reich Cloth Insignia: Service Badges and Emblems 1 (Hardcover)
This book delves into the endless stream of Third Reich cloth emblems. It is not all inclusive; but for someone who just wants to get a flavor of all the insignia/patches that were produced during the Third Reich, then this is an appropriate book. Brian Davis always does an excellent job in historical research, and this book is no exception.

An excellent reference, April 25, 2009
This review is from: Third Reich Cloth Insignia: Service Badges and Emblems 1 (Hardcover)
Brian L. Davis has written some of the most authoritative works on uniforms, badges and insignia of the German and British armies of World War Two, the sole recommendation I needed to purchase this book.
The particular value of this work is that it concentrates not on the armed forces of Germany, which receive a mention, but the main organisations of the Nazi state including: the SA, foreign volunteers, State Labour Service, Home Defence, Organisation Todt, German Labour Front, railway workers, postal workers, eastern territories officers, factory guards, Tram and Bus officials, Police, Volkssturm, German Red Cross, Ostbau. Examples of cloth insignia are reproduced in colour along with black and white contemporary photos illustrating the items being worn.
As the author states in the introduction, the book makes no pretence at comprehensiveness simply because of the huge scale of the subject matter, however it compliments three other works by Brian L. Davis which together provide a detailed look at the subject of German cloth badges and insignia: 'German Uniforms of the Third Reich 1933-1945' (with Pierre Turner) Blandford 1986; 'The German Home Front 1939-1945' (with Malcolm McGregor), Osprey 2007; and `Badges and Insignia of the Third Reich 1933-1945' (with Malcolm McGregor), Arms and Armour Press 1992.
Highly recommended
