Book Description

"A terrific epic fantasy ~ magical, compelling, and romantic!" Susan Mallery, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author

"It's impressively easy to become immersed in Marton's fantasy world. Readers will find it impossible not to care what happens next..." Kirkus Review

An ambitious, vividly imagined epic fantasy. Marton has created a promising and immersive world that is, at the same time, darkly brutal... the splendor of the author's vision cannot be overlooked." RT Book Reviews

A maiden healer sold to barbarians.

A world of savage warlords and cruel concubines.

When ancient powers collide, can the slave save the realm and the high lord's heart?

"I ADORED.. (the hero). From his initial appearance and those gentle words of promise that no harm would come to...(the heroine), to his accepting manner of all that was her, to his tenderness shown when a barrier for which he waited so patiently to fold was finally crossed. He has to be one of my favourite male counterparts I’ve read in a while. LOVE him." Bookaroo-Ju Review

"The writing is just beautiful. It flows sometimes like water. I don't know how else to describe it other than to say i enjoyed how it felt reading it." 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick Stars

For anyone who enjoyed the fantasy worlds of George Martin's Game of Thrones, C.L. Wilson's Lord of the Fading Lands, Elizabeth Vaughan's Warprize, or the memorably crafted healer heroines in Jean Auel's Clan of the Cave Bear and Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, THE THIRD SCROLL is the next epic adventure to get lost in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly captivating! May 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I know a book's been a really great one when I find myself longing to revisit the story and its characters days after finishing. Such was the case with Dana Marton's THE THIRD SCROLL, the first in an excellent new fantasy series featuring enslaved healer Tera and her quest to return to the home that has betrayed her. Tera is an utterly engaging heroine, smart, active, and far braver than she knows. From the moment she is sold as a potential concubine (which is a huge problem as she'll never come into her full healing powers if she loses her virginity before attaining them) with a brutal, warlike people, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Though the storyline at first seems simple (gentle, peaceful healers:good, warrior slave-holders:bad) it quickly becomes apparent that there is far more to these cultures than first meets the eye, and that only by working in tandem can they survive a greater threat. Terrific world-building with so many well-drawn, unforgettable characters--I can't wait to read more in this well-written, fast-paced series.

If you're on the fence about this one, try the sample. I can almost guarantee you'll be sucked into Marton's story as quickly as I was.

Very highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner for Dana Marton May 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have been a fan of Dana Marton's for years. When I finished the first book of hers and couldn't put it down until finished, I was hooked with her work. For the first time in my life, I went so far as to hunt down earlier books of hers and buy them.

That being said, I have never enjoyed an author jumping genres. Something just seems to go wrong in my experience. This did not happen with Dana Marton. Her ability to keep up an exciting pace of action kept me riveted as always. And her ability to narrow in on occasional details while painting a broad stroke of a scene still worked.

Dana's ability to keep the whole book written in the first person, is exceedingly difficult, but she pulls it off. And she keeps her details in the story line right through the book. It is always nice to have someone work their craft with such style and elegance that you don't even feel as if you are reading a work of fiction, but are watching a movie run before your eyes.

It has been weeks since I have read "The Third Scroll", and the mental images are still there in my head waiting for the next book in the series. Which I eagerly await. Thank you Dana for taking us on this trip with you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Magical Story May 30, 2012
This story is awesome! This book glued itself to my thoughts for a long time after. The Third Scroll is the best book I read in 2012. I won a copy of the book in a giveaway for free and I'm hooked. If you are not sure you want to read this book -You Should- The Third Scroll is captivating, unique, and refreshing. It was not long before I developed a compassionate connection with the main character Tara, and I was sucked into her heartwrenching world. This was the first book I read of Dana Marton's and I enjoyed her writing style. I was happy with how she wrote the book- stopping just when she needed to and never taking it too far. I'm impatiently waiting for the rest of Tara's story. I will read every book to come in the Hardstorm Saga. (Update 04/05/2014 it has been about two years since I've read this book, and I still think about the story and check back often for a second book)

Dana Marton lead me into a new world, one she hasn't shown previously, and it is exciting and well worth the read! Once I got past the strange names and geography the story quickly captured my attention and I didn't want to put it down. The heroine is strong and extremely interesting, I followed her through the many trials she faced as she found love and saved her people and the people of her mate. The hero a leader of men and country, when times are turbulent and war all aound them he protects her and his people leading them to war and victory. This a is a really good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCITING, FAST-PACED, GRIPPING READ! May 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is my first experience reading one of Ms. Marton's books, but I am HOOKED! Tera is fascinating -- I felt like I was living every experience along side her. I couldn't put the book down! It was brutiful -- brutal and beautiful. Can't wait to read the next in this series -- as well as the other books by this author!

4.0 out of 5 stars More like 4.5. GREAT story. June 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is by far one of the best epic fantasy novels I've read in some time. I was immersed in Tera's world from the first chapter and compelled to click my kindle's page turner late into the night.

Yummies: Cliche-less awesome story telling wraps around real life characters who lack in perfection. Rarely am I surprised by character revelations and spilled secrets, but this story had quite a few I didn't see coming. I was thrilled, to say the least!

Yuckies: Not really a yucky - more a personal preference which some fantasy lovers would disagree with ... I'm a sucker for romance and the fulfillment of love being shown. Just when I thought, "Woo Hoo! THE scene,' blinds closed, curtains were drawn. Pooh. :)

Recommend: You better believe it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh New Voice in Epic Fantasy May 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It takes a great deal of courage to survive in a strange and savage realm without being crushed by it.

Tera, a young healer, snatched away from everything she has ever known and forced to be a concubine to a powerful warlord, finds such courage within herself. Her journey to discover the strength and power that lies within her leads her along the same horrific path that destroyed her mother.

It also takes courage for a popular, established author to venture into a new genre. Dana Marton is a talented and successful romantic suspense author whose books have been published in seven languages in eleven countries around the world.

Now, she is venturing into a new genre, epic fantasy. Her first book of the HARDSTORM SAGA is called THE THIRD SCROLL. Knowing Marton's talent, I eagerly dove into Tera's story, and was not surprised to find it elegantly crafted and beautifully written as well as compelling read.

Anyone who knows Marton's Harlequin Intrigues will be eager to relish this exciting new direction for her fiction. Those who love epic fantasy will find her a fresh new voice in the genre.

Do yourself a favor and read THE THIRD SCROLL. I anticipate that you'll be filing it away on your virtual keeper shelf.
