Book Description

November 3, 2009 Charlie Fox Thrillers

This time, dynamite suspense writer Zoë Sharp’s “must-read heroine of mystery” (Ken Bruen) is down—but not out…

The last person that professional bodyguard, Charlotte “Charlie” Fox ever expected to see self-destruct was her own father, an eminent surgeon. But when he admits to gross professional misconduct on a New York news program, Charlie can’t just stand by and watch his downfall.

Her father has always been cold towards Charlie, and rejects her help at every turn. The good doctor has never made a secret of his disapproval of Charlie’s careeror her relationship with her boss, Sean Meyer. Now, just as Charlie and Sean are settling in to their new life in the States, her dad seems determined to go down in a blazing lack of glory.  But he has not bargained on his daughter’s ruthless streak. And when the game turns deadly, Charlie will need to stake her father’s life—as well as her own—against a formidable foe…

5.0 out of 5 stars Zoe Sharp delivers again, December 27, 2011

Once again, Zoe Sharp delivers a fast-paced story, drawing us further into the saga of Charlie Fox and her intriguing life. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Reading the two star review critical of the portrayal of the pharmaceutical industry, I have to say, this is fiction, it's clear it's fiction, and whether or not the actual industry being portrayed is completely accurate or not is kind of beside the point. It's not an expose of the pharmaceutical industry. But human nature is human nature, and greed drives many people to bad acts. It's no secret the pharmaceutical companies have neutered the FDA and repeatedly put dangerous drugs on the market which later end up being recalled. Working in law, I've seen stranger things in this and other industries, and I did not think this novel stretched the limits of believability beyond redemption.

I loved the developing story between Charlie and Sean Meyers and Dr. Foxcroft. It was fascinating to see what happens when Charlie is confronted with a situation where her own family is under threat. I thought the action was well paced, and I never lost interest throughout the novel. At $6.99 for the Kindle version, you can't go wrong. It's a solid series with a compelling main character, and I will continue reading the books Zoe Sharp writes. I love her writing style.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not up to earlier books, February 19, 2010
This review is from: Third Strike: A Charlie Fox Mystery (Charlie Fox Thrillers) (Mass Market Paperback)
I like Zoe Sharp's books, but this one fell short due to lack of research. Her portrayal of drug development and pharmaceutical companies so lacked credibility that I went to the acknowledgments to see if she had had any expert advice. To no surprise, thanks were given to various experts, but none to someone who could have fixed the pharmaceutical company/drug development aspects in the story. Too bad, I just rushed through/skimmed to the ending because the portrayal completely lacked credibility.
