5.0 out of 5 stars Picks up where the old timers left off, July 11, 2004

Rocky IV "metrohillbilly" (Loveland, CO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Third Stroke (Audio CD)
Let me explain that title. First of all Biopsy is a side project of "Aghast View", one of the hardest rocking electro-industrial geniuses I've ever heard. When you think of the roots of the "industrial" genre, Ministry, Front 242, or Skinny Puppy probably come to mind. They've influenced so many groups over the years and without them where would we be? But all those groups peaked in the late 80s. Now we need someone to continue the evolution of that music style, so it doesn't become bland, lost, and forgotten. Biopsy a.k.a. Aghast View does just that. Their music is unique and unmatchable. Most electronic bands have songs that are too similar sounding to eachother, or have very little change from beginning to end within them. Aghast/Biopsy is just the opposite. Each song is uniquely different. Sometimes the songs themselves change from beginning to end keeping them fresh and interesting and leaving you wondering if you're still listening to the same song. It turns this album into a thrill ride, fast paced hard-core music from beginning to end. "Third Stroke" is a great album and so is their previous "Nervate". I've heard "Cervix State" is good too, but unfortunately I don't have that one. Although I will undoutedly get it soon. I also recommend anything from "Aghast View".

4.0 out of 5 stars creative, fun, fast paced industrial with an edge, May 1, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Third Stroke (Audio CD)
Biopsy is a side project of Aghast View, with a little bit of a harder & more agressive style. This is interesting industrial music that's fun to listen to.. full of energy. One of the things about Biopsy is that they tend to change styles & tempos often during songs, so much that it bothers some folks. I think it keeps the music interesting and fresh.

If you're an Aghast View fan considering a Biopsy album.. the vocals are similar and there is a similar layer of techno/synth that holds the songs together. But Biopsy is a little more "A.D.D."- it seems like every 4, 6, or 8 measures they forget what they were doing and change the music structure. The guitars give Biopsy a harder edge than the more techno'y Aghast View. It seems a little experimental at times.. overall this (and other Biopsy albums) are interesting to hear and keep your brain busy processing & enjoying the various styles.

(deep breath)
So anyway I'd recommend this and other Biopsy albums to industrial fans looking for some interesting work from pros. Long live Brazil..
