Begala Does It Again,
By
This review is from: Third Term: Why George W. Bush (Hearts) John McCain (Paperback)
Combining his trademark wit with some pretty meticulous research, this book once again shows why Paul Begala is, in my opinion, the best mind we've got in the Democratic Party. He completely debunks the Maverick Myth and relentlessly takes shot after shot at the Bush-McCain policy agenda.
Best of all, it's clear that Paul relishes the fight. It's about time Democrats stood up, fought back, and called McCain out for what he has long since become - a George W. Bush, right-wing Republican. Thanks, Paul, for calling a spade a spade.

Paul has hit the nail on the head. McCain is no maverick, he is Bush third term. McCain has voted with Bush you can't tell them apart. The conservatives don't want to see anything negative in McCain. Buy this book you won't regret it. Don't listen to the people here that obviously haven't read it.

Once again, Begala has written the most informative and entertaining book of the election cycle. Not only does "Third Term" showcase his "Texan sense of humor," but with over 800 endnotes, it is filled with well-documented facts. If anyone is skeptical that a John McCain presidency would be a third term for George W. Bush, this book is sure to change your mind.
FIVE STARS.

Paul Begala once again brings the truth to light like no other Texan can. Thank you for writing a book that really allows for some clear thought around the real responsibility of the CEO of our country.
I will be sure to send this book far and wide to everyone (and there are still some out there) who thinks that McCain is an independent. "Keep Hope Alive"

Open-minded voters, please read this book!,

What an amazingly scary, Bush-like record Senator McCain has!
Begala supports his statements with thirty pages of references, including many of McCain's Senate votes. No wonder groups looking out for seniors, children, veterans, and the environment rate McCain so low! This is a well-organized, clearly written, helpfully indexed book that I hope every open-minded voter reads.

Buy This Book IF you love Bush! Buy This Book IF you hate Bush,

This review is from: Third Term: Why George W. Bush (Hearts) John McCain (Paperback)
If you would like the next 4 years to be like the last 8, BUY THIS BOOK. If you would like America to move in a fundamentally different direction BUY THIS BOOK.
This book explains detaily why you should vote for John McCain if you would be better off in third Bush term, and why you should be willing to get off your sick bed and go vote against John McCain if you're heartbroken by hardships in the lives of average Americans and you would like to see a repudiation of the Bush and Republican ideology that has devastated the world's largest economy.

Not exactly breaking news, but a good read.,

This review is from: Third Term: Why George W. Bush (Hearts) John McCain (Paperback)
Considering McCain has voted along with President Bush 91% of the time the last 7 years, it doesn't take much brains to figure out that McCain isn't the "Maverick" he claims to be. I respect John McCain, but after 8 years of Bush, enough is enough. If you're a supporter of O'Bama, and already believe that McCain equals a Bush 3rd term, then there's no reason to read this book. If you have any doubts, then buy it. Begala does a good job making his case.

Third Term
Paul Begala This book begins with the 2000 Republican Presidential primary and the incredible smears by the Bush campaign against the McCain campaign and their total lack of truth. Amazingly it go on to say how after only a short cooling off period McCain completely embraces George W. Bush and his policies. By comparing words and deeds Begala makes a very good case why if you liked the last 8 years you would love a McCain Presidency.

Meticulously researched, engagingly presented critique.,

This review is from: Third Term: Why George W. Bush (Hearts) John McCain (Paperback)
Paul Begala makes the case with research, not rancor, that Senator McCain's record, rhetoric and proposals promise a continuation, not a break from, the Bush Administration's economic, social, deregulatory, military and foreign polices. He avoids the common pitfalls of such political accounts: this is neither the dry scorecard of a policy "insider," nor the zingy yet unsubstantiated riposte of the "pundit." Rather, it is a mature, concise, specific accounting of Republican policies, John McCain's support for them, and their devastating effects on the nation. It should have been "must" reading for undecided voters.

I didn't see this when it came out during the 2008 election cycle - picked it up at a used-books store - but read it with great delight. We may not be 100% happy with Obama, but this book reminds us of the appalling fate we escaped had the election gone the other way. Paul Begala gives us 200 pages of meticulously researched facts, supported by 20 pages of references, to prove that with very minor exceptions, a McCain presidency would have been a third term of G. W. Bush.
But he does more - documents other unnerving aspects of McCain: the volcanic temper, the vast ignorance of economic issues and - really disturbingly for someone who would inherit a Middle East war - of the nations and peoples of that area. And the resolute flip-flopping on issues such as abortion. Begala writes with a crisp, no-nonsense style that makes for easy reading, and presents facts in a straightforward and fully-documented way. For instance, there was a lot of work involved in tallying up McCain's votes over the years on so many specific issues, but the result is overwhelming evidence. He finds time also to create sharp critiques of many McCain advisors and associates - the pages on Carly Fiorina are totally devastating! but see also his reviews of crazy right-wing pastors, and corporate polluter-lovers like Nancy Pfotenhauer....I think she must have gone into hiding since the BP disaster..there's no way to put a favorable spin on that one. |
