runt of the litter,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mogo, the Third Warthog (Hardcover)
Mogo the Third Warthog is a story about a warthog who goes on many adventures in his lifetime. Mogo gets kicked out of the burrow by his mother and has to live with two of his brothers. During the story, Mogo's first brother moves away and his second brother gets lost in a hyena pack.
I love Mogo the Third Warthog because it's about animals. My favorite characters are Mogo because he has lots of adventures, and Baboony because he is really funny! My favorite part is when Baboony jumps down from the tree and kills the monster because you wouldn't think a baboon would do something like that. Mogo had a problem when he lost both his brothers and was lost in the plains. Mogo had another problem when he was stuck in his burrow with the monster. I would recommend this book to someone else. I think a type of person that would like this book would be a person who likes adventures and animals.

Life as a warthog!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mogo, the Third Warthog (Hardcover)
I am a third grade teacher, I would recommend this book as a read aloud because some of the animal behaviors would need to be explained to children. Also, the book takes place on the African Savannah and several animals do die. Mogo is a lovable character he and his two brothers get kicked out of their family when they reach maturity. Mogo is very confused, he doesn't want to live alone like the typical warthog. This is a story of Mogo's struggle to come to terms with his new life. This book really explains the way warthogs and other animals from the African Savannah live in the wild.

Donna Jo Napoli's MOGO, THE THIRD WARTHOG tells of a warthog who is the runt of the letter, determined to survive in the tough African savanna. When it's time for him to leave home he faces many dangers - and ironically his bossy, lazy older siblings may not have his resilience when it comes to survival tactics. A fine story of friendship and survival evolves in this fun adventure born of The Three Little Pigs.
