This review is from: Third World (Audio CD)
This recording was originally issued as:

played by:
Marcus Belgrave, Donald Byrd, Booker Little (tp) Mal Waldron (p) Addison Farmer (b) Ed Shaughnessy (d) Armando Peraza (per)
NYC, spring 1960

Construction Crew/ November Afternoon / Witch Fire
Played by:
Don Ellis, Booker Little (tp) Curtis Fuller (tb) Teddy Charles (vib) Mal Waldron (p) Addison Farmer (b) Philly Joe Jones, Ed Shaughnessy (d) Willie Rodriguez (per)
NYC, summer 1960

A minor but great Percussion based/ Latin Jazz type thing. A very hot Jazz band with great hand drumming and rythms. The vibes add a good moody touch.

THe group featured some artists (like Booker Little, and Mal Waldron) who are responsible for some under accalimed compostitions/ albums/ and playing.

They worked both in and out of the mainstream (Waldron played for Billie Holiday {he wrote Left alone for her] and recently made an incredible cd of deuets with archie shepp called left alone revisited Left Alone Revisited: A Tribute to Billie Holiday) Booker Little recorded with Eric Dolphy, John Coltrane, Booker Ervin, and George Colman, among others)

Donald Byrd and Phully Joe and Philly Joe are two of thighly respectedlong time jazz players, of course
Curtis Fuller is a great hard bop trobonist (with Art blakey and on his own) and Don Ellis composed many intersting experiments
The original album is out of print as far as I know and this mght be the only place to pick up some of the tracks.
