3.0 out of 5 stars The Original Military Techo-thriller, but dull, September 21, 2010

This review is from: The Third World War: the untold story.
This is the book that started all the Tom Clancy, Harold Coyle, Larry Bond, Stephen Coonts, Dale Brown, etc. military techno-thrillers that introduced most people to the 1970's-80's current state of Cold War technology and strategy. The Soviet Union invades Germany and the NATO forces attempt to counter; both using their standard weapon platforms. Team Yankee was actually based on the Fulda Gap portion of this book, which is half-novel, half military wargame scenario. Unfortunately, it is a rather boring read, and Team Yankee and Red Storm Rising are much more entertaining as they are written by novelists rather than retired generals. Still, this is an important work as it opened up a whole new genre.
