one of the greatest,

I agree with the person two below me in that this album is one of the greatest of all time. The first three tracks flow so well together and are gapless continuous which keeps the mood going. this debut album definitely showed people third world's talented vocal harmonies. the reggae anthem "satta massagana" originally by the abyssinians, slavery days, and freedom song are probably my favorites although its hard to chose.
the vocals aren't the only thing going on in the tracks though. great instrumentation throughout the album with keyboard and flute solos, great drum and rythmn section solos, and of course guitar solos. third world is a reggae band influenced by some funk too as can be seen in the track cross reference. overall a must for any reggae fan. buy this now.

Hi, my dad is a big fan of this album and we are trying hard to get hold of it but this doesn't seem possible in the U.K., not sure exactly why but we are unable to download it or even buy the vinyl copy, it isn't available on our itunes either. Any ideas or help on this matter would be very gratefully recieved!

This album's so good, it's hard to believe it was recordered by the same group that started playing a 2nd hand disco later on... I guess, Cris Blackwell (Island Records) didn't pressure them hard enough in the years to follow...

I saw this band in concert in 1976 in California when they were on tour playing all the songs from this album. This is still my favorite reggae band and a must for reggae lovers. Every tune is awesome!

Top 5 All-Time,

Any Reggae fan should be ashamed not to own this album. From start to finish it is one of the most classic sets of music ever recorded. The best part is that it is over 25 years old! Just as Burning Spear did, Third World produced its best music early on. Masterpieces such as "Brand New Beggar" and "Freedom Song", and covers of Winston Rodney's "Slavery Days" and the Abyssinian's "Satta Masa Gana" will simply never get old. This album and "96 Degrees in the Shade" belong in any collection of music, and probably fall in the top 5 albums reggae ever produced.

Question,

This review is from: Third World (Audio CD)
I didn't hear this album, but know the songs on it. So I give it 5 stars. I just have one question - How long is the version of Kumina? If it is the 29 second version, that is hardly long enough. It just gives ya a tease. Was just wondering if on this album it is a longer version? |
