4.0 out of 5 stars Does Humor Belong In Thrash?, July 3, 2010

This review is from: Thirst (Audio CD)
Whether it does or not, Tankard couldn't care less as humor has been a big part of their act from the very beginning. Spoofing the typical thrash lyrics and writing about pretty much any crazy idea that comes into their alcohol fueled brains has always been Tankard's thing, and I friggin' love them for it. Of course this may be the reason why they're not as legendary as their fellow thrash metal countrymen, even having been around for almost 30 years. I can assume their probably looked at as more of a novelty, but that is totally unfair, coz these guys absolutely rock. Thirst is their most recent album, and Tankard is at no loss for heavy, catchy tunes and all out alcoholic buffoonery. They do let a bit of a serious side loose in a few tracks, which does work, but most of the album is gonna give you tales of odd silliness like pirates who collect recyclables instead of gold, rancid farts(always fun), foot fetishism(not usually a topic covered by any kind of band), and drinking of course. There's even a song here about a guy dying in a Finnish steam bath and condemned to haunt the place till the next sucker comes in and dies. WTF?
Since Tankard have pretty much kept the same sound throughout their whole career, Thirst is as good a place to start as any if you're curious about the band. Actually I feel it's one of their better albums, though I don't dislike any of them. Check out the video for "Stay Thirsty" if you need a sample of the Tankard madness, then take a swig.
