I Thirst For More,
By
This review is from: I Thirst for You (Primes Series, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
"I Thirst For You" was absolutely terrific. I had read "I Burn For You" very recently and it was fresh in my mind so I was already familiar with the different groups of vampires in this book. Where the first book dealt with a "Clan" vampire, this one dealt with a "Family" vampire. Marcus Cage was every inch a hero, even when he didn't think so himself. He escaped torture at the hands of mad scientists and ran straight into the arms of his soul mate (or Bond Mate). Josephine Elliot was fragile after her recent plane crash and was trying to find some peace of mind in the middle of the desert when this large, overwhelming man came out of the night and took her captive, body and soul. This story was a non-stop, exciting ride. It took me just a few hours to read the book because I became so engrossed in Marc and Jo's story. The love scenes were wonderful and intense. I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in vampire stories or romance. You don't even have to be a vampire fiction fan to enjoy this story. The romance alone is worth the read. My only complaint is that the book was not long enough (are they ever) and now I have to wait so long to read the next one.

Good but not one of her best,

This review is from: I Thirst for You (Primes Series, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
After I read I BURN FOR YOU, I was really looking forward to this new book. It was a good read, but the plot was a little too predictable to me. It took half the book to get her to beleive he was a real vampire. Although he had already bit her neck and drank her blood. They had already shared nightmares and she had come to care for him. She still betrayed him to Gavin. According to the book he is a prime. It seems all they do is think about, and have (...). I'm not complaining, I just knew from the first chapter that they would somehow wind up in the hands of his captors. Why couldn't he get blood from someone else, if he was so determined not to suck on her neck, And he needed it so bad. I finished the book and I will buy her next one. But I hope the capturing is out of her system. It seems that in every one of the last few vampire books I have read, someone wants Immortality. They think they only have to capture a vampire to get it. She could have left out about 100 pages and still got the same book.

Buy this one for sure, but ignore the cover art!,

This review is from: I Thirst for You (Primes Series, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I LOVED the first book, and read the sneak preview in the back of it for this one. The publisher should be spanked; they not only changed the title between publication of the sneak chapters and actual distribution of the book (Makes it hard to pre-order a book when you have a bogus title!) but once they put it out, they used cover art with NO relationship to the actual main charactors (He has curly short dark hair and a largish nose, she has short blonde hair; cover shows him with longish straight hair and her with long dark hair. Duh) The first book concentrated on one faction of Vampire society, the Clans; this book features a representative of the Families. Each group sees the other through an ethnocentric point of view, which is refreshingly humanlike - - - I can't wait to see what she does with a member of the Tribes as a main charactor, or better yet, what the first-person view of a female vampire would be, considering their somewhat restricted biology. What I didn't like was the introduction of a paramilitary "DPI" like evil organization intent on developing immortality by experimenting on Vampires in a labratory. Hmm... read this elsewhere. She loves alpha males, fast pace, intricate personal relationships, and invests her writing with good background detail. This was overall an engaging read, and you should read both this and "I BURN FOR YOU", if you haven't already.

compelling and enthralling vampire romance,
This review is from: I Thirst for You (Primes Series, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
He's running from his captors in the Arizona desert when vampire Marcus Cage stumbles upon Josephine Elliot who is camping there. She is a sensitive empathic pilot struggling to cope from a crash that killed five passengers. A crazed Marcus, weakened from the drugs he was forced to take and the rays of the sun thinks running into Jo is a miracle. Marcus drinks Jo's blood until she becomes unconscious. Marcus needs to protect his Breed, but he also believes that meeting Jo is a miracle because she is his soulmate.Marcus keeps her captive until he realizes that Jo being with him is dangerous to her so he walks out on her. The local sheriff persuades her that Marcus is crazy and needs to be found for his own protection. She finds him, but they are handed over to the Patron and his followers at a top secret laboratory. They want the secret of immortality and thinks Marcus can give it to them. When the vampire gets over being angry at Jo for leading his enemies to him, they work together to find a way to escape. Fast, sizzling and erotic are only some of the words that describe the relationship between the vampire and the empath. The author is so good at world-building that readers find themselves believing that vampires are living in this world hiding in plain sight. There is a lot of action in I THIRST FOR YOU but it is the characters who make this vampire romance such a compelling and enthralling reading experience that it will satiate readers thirst for a tale with a bite. I love how she writes the vamp in a new way while still keeping with the old fashioned feel of tradition. Unlike Feehan, I enjoyed that the female in this was truly strong, and not just one of those no means yes kind of girls. She pretty much accepts her physical attraction to the main character from the get go and doesn't feel guilty about it. And honestly, kicks serious butt, and gets the true admiration of Marc. Not just, oh how cute, she is fighting back, but to no avail. I do like alpha male type characters, but I also like women characters written to give as good as they get, and this one didn't disappoint.
I thought the writing was fresh and real, and at times, surprisingly funny. You'll need to hold this one with oven mitts, because it is hot, hot, hot!

Should have been a better book,

Having read other books by the same author, I found I was more than a little disappointed in this one, especially as part of an ongoing series. The book itself is fairly short for the genre at 325 rather largely-typed softcover pages. As necessity, the character development, especially of Marc the hero, is stunted. If you haven't read the first in the series, you probably spent at least a couple dozen pages scratching your head and wondering what the heck a "Prime" was. There's a miniscule explanation, which doesn't at all do justice to what was a major plotline in book 1 and looks to be in book 3. The heroine is typical: sexy, spunky, a little extraordinary, willing to accept a lot of strange behavior from a guy who looks good in a towel. What we know of the hero is also standard fare: sexy manly man with lots of secrets. That's about as deep as it gets, with barely a glance at his all-important family and clan lines. I'm not really sure why Sizemore chose to focus so much on the familial demands in the vamp hierarchy in book 1, only to nearly completely drop it in book 2. The bad guy is interesting in a sort of mad-scientist cliched way and Sizemore keeps one theme constant that I appreciate: that the vamp isn't necessarily all-powerful, able to leap buildings in a single bound while never getting tired. Other than that, this book could easily have just appeared as one of the Harlequin books of the month. There's not much in here that is deserving of either the romance or the horror aisle, just enough of both to make it readable until the new Laurell Hamilton book is out. I would only recommend this for die-hard Sizemore or vamp romance fans. It's not particularly well-written and the story won't stay with you for much more than an hour or two past finishing it, but it's okay for a painless, quickie beach read.

Grade B Prime,

This review is from: I Thirst for You (Primes Series, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
In her second installment in her Primes series, Jo Elliot is a woman trying
to hide from a painful event in her past, and Marcus Cage is a man, who is trying to hide from those who seek to do him harm. Cage kidnaps Jo not only because he needs her, but because he was led to her she is his sanity and that is what he needs most at this point in his life. Cage never tells Jo that he's a vampire, he won't bring her into that part of his life yet because she'd be in too much danger, so he does the only honorable thing he can think of, he lets her go because she's making his survival instincts fall by the wayside. When she is around his only goal is her happiness. Only by letting her go does he end up putting her in even more danger, as he left her empathic gifts numb so she doesn't know to trust. Some of the plot points were kind of like man why give it away, but other than that it was a good continuation in this cross between Feehan and Hamilton.

Watch out--Christine Feehan!,

If you like the plot of the woman, kidnapped by the sexy, gentle, yet forceful and dangerous (but never to her!) man, you'll like "I Thirst for You." I personally like vampire books, and the idea of the "alpha" male who has only one true mate that he must seduce is mighty appealing. I liked this book more than "I Burn for You," which I really couldn't get into. But vampire Marcus, escaping from a torturous laboratory, who comes upon his destined mate, a human empath who is trying to recover from guilt and shock is irresistible. That she misguidedly betrays him and his desire (which he cannot bring himself to enact) for vengeance added great internal tension. I liked this book a lot, and if you like the kind of books I've describe, I think you will too.

Annoying Heroine,

This review is from: I Thirst for You (Primes Series, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Whatever happened to sex after you loved and trust someone? Josphine, a traumatized pilot, is out in the desert by herself. She is taken prisoner by an escaping vampire in order to save himeself. There is a lot of angst on her part. Although she distrusts Marc and is always trying to escape, this does not stop her from voluntarily having sex with him. He lets her go even though it lessens his chance of surviving. Finally her stupidity gets him recaptured and her thrown in with him. Then she pouts because he shot in her directionalthough he was unaware of this. When they finally escape, she endangers everyone.
As you can tell, the heroine really annoyed me. It makes me feel sorry for Marc that has no choice in his life mate. Unfortunately, he is stuck with her. I really prefer books where the female is a brighter and better adjusted.

Interesting in parts, but falls a little flat in the romance area,

In the second installment in Susan Sizemore's vampire series, we meet Marcus Cage, a man on the run from a group of vampire-experimenting mortals.
After escaping the clutches of the mad scientists obsessed with learning the secrets of immortality, Marcus finds himself in the desert, weak and thirsty for blood. Using his remaining strength to scan his environment for possible supplement, he was shocked to feel the presence of a woman - not just any woman, but his possible bondmate. As the only survivor of the plane crash on which she was the pilot, Jo Elliott has kept on her own. But while the guilt was enough to drive anyone mad, the fact that she is an Empath adds to her burden, remembering how she felt everyone's fear as they slowly plunged into their death. While out camping on her own one night, little did she know that she would end up being held prisoner. But strangely, there was a connection with her captor that is so undeniable that she knew that things would never be the same for either of them. Having read the first book I BURN FOR YOU, I was expecting this book to be as humorous. But I THIRST FOR YOU is a little darker and also more action-packed than the first one. And while it is interesting in most parts, I was rather disappointed with the lack of chemistry between Marcus and Jo. Unlike in the first book where there was the thrill of reading about the intense attraction that the main characters felt for each other, I didn't feel the same with this one. I felt that they just lacked the spark. But those issues aside, I did like getting more insight into the vampire world (Sizemore version) and learning a few more things about the Tribe, Family and Clan. I am now reading the story of Colin Foxe, the young Prime who helps Marcus and Jo escape, and I can tell you that it is looking more exciting than this one! |
