This review is from: Thirsties Duo Wrap, Mango, Size Two (18-40 lbs) (Baby Product)
First, let me start by saying "I love Thirsties." We tried many different covers while my son was a newborn (Bummis, Litewrap, DiaperWrap, Proraps, the list goes on...) and Thirsties were by far the best. That said, you can imagine how excited I was when they came out with Duos! I bought one in each boy-friendly color in size 2 instead of transitioning to Medium original Thirsties. Big mistake! These are not the same quality as the originals AT ALL. I think the inner laminate must be made of slightly different material or something because it simply doesn't hold up in the wash! After only two cycles, the waterproof coating began to peel off and crack. I am a cloth diapering addict and am VERY careful about how I wash my dipes and covers. I always line dry them and treat them very gently so I know I didn't do anything wrong to cause this. As a result of the peeling, urine sometimes gets wicked through to the outside cover. For now, the covers are still useable. Even when the urine soaks through a little, not enough gets through to cause any dampness to my son's clothes. However, it means I have to wash the covers more - which is worriesome considering how they're already having problems holding up. I'm so disappointed! I thought these were going to save us money in the long run. Now I'm probably going to need to go back to the original Thirsties and write these off as a loss.

Trimmer fit than the original Thirsties but runs small,

This review is from: Thirsties Duo Wrap, Rose, Size One (6-18 lbs) (Baby Product)
I have to say that I LOVE the original Thirsties diaper covers, they are amazing. When I saw that the Thirsties Duo Wrap came out I thought I would give them a try because of the wide size range. I purchased 2 covers and have been using them for the last week. We haven't had any leaks so far. Compared to the size small Thirsties the Duo Wrap is smaller. My 12 lb. baby girl wears these covers at the largest setting (no snaps are snapped) and I don't think they are going to take her to 18 lbs. The trimmer fit makes them a great day time diaper, but not as good as an overnight diaper. Overall I think they are great and I would recommend them for daytime use.

My baby is a big baby so I figured these would save $. They do fit great. I have always liked Thirsties because they have the leg gussets and come in cute colors. However these particular ones, the duo wrap, are a different material from the other Thirsties we have and tend to leak through the material and the trim material gives my baby a little redness if he wears them too long. They are not good overnight covers. They work just fine for a few hours during the day.

Better than the originals to me!,

This review is from: Thirsties Duo Wrap, Ocean Blue, Size Two (18-40 lbs) (Baby Product)
Like many reviewers, I've tried both the duos and the original covers. Originally, I was scared of buying the duos because of a few prominent, negative reviews. So I started out on the originals. I so regret that. The duos have worked great for us! In fact, they've worked better than originals. Consider that plus the increased size-range/length of use per cover--which translates into savings and fewer resources wasted--and you can see how foolish it is to not try these!
What really makes me prefer the duos over the originals (besides the obvious savings) is how customizable they are. That's what allows you to get a truly great fit--both snug and leak proof, while being comfortable for baby and "growing" with them. The easy customization is also useful for accommodating the varying sizes/thickness of different prefolds, ways of folding, and for diaper-doubling. I don't think the sizes runs small. To me, the sizes of the originals run small. My son outgrew the those very quickly. He was over 20 pounds at 4 months, but these fit him wonderfully and continue to as he grows. If my son outgrows these before he hits 40 pounds, I'll let you all know. I don't think, as has been implied, that they're made from a different and inferior material than the originals. They have snaps and are cut a bit differently. That's it. I'm pretty sure they're cut from the same cloth. I've washed my covers a fair bit since I got them (I only bought three, so they see a lot of action), and they've held up very well. They honestly still look brand new. And I accidentally threw one of my covers in the dryer once! There's been no peeling-issues like another reviewer suggested; I'm assuming what she got was probably defective. And I haven't had any leaks with mine. Like with the original covers, the piping at the leg openings and top sometimes wick moisture. That moisture dries quick if you air your covers between changes. If you're having leaks with ANY sort of diaper or cover, than perhaps you should try changing them more often. Works for me--we only have leaks when my son has no diaper on (pardon the digression). So why didn't I give this 5 stars? The snaps can come open easily when I putting it on tightly, but that's a very minor issue in my opinion. Also, they're a bit pricey in my opinion. Yes, buying these is cheaper than buying the originals or disposable diapers. And they're about average price compared to other PUL covers. But these were still worth the price to me, but if they were 2 or 3 dollars cheaper I'd rate them higher and buy at least two more (for now I'm happy rotating my three and using other cover options).

Design GENIUS, quality failure,

I have been a long time fan of thirsties. I have the old fitted diapers with snaps. I have had those diapers for 6 years and they work better now then the day I bought them. I have every size of unbleached prefolds that your company made and love them so much I could never buy any others. I have never had anything but great things to say about your company and your products.
But I have to say that the new thirsties duo wrap is a travesty in product quality. I have been cloth diapering for 10 years now. I have some wraps that I have been able to use for 8 years because I know exactly how to wash/dry wraps in order to have them last a long time. The duo wrap is shoddily made. It is obviously thrown together in the fastest way possible. The DESIGN is wonderful, the execution is horrible. The unfinished pocket in the front would be fine if it was done like bumkins- with some care, not just a raw piece of fabric. The lamination is horrible. I have had 8 wraps that I have used and treated well for just two weeks and they all smell horrible and leak because the fabric is barely water resistant, let alone capable of keeping in leaks. Thirsties has sacrificed quality, even if the design is wonderful, it is useless to have a great design when you execute the design in the cheapest and fastest way possible and sacrifice the quality of the end result. I feel cheated. I spent over $100 on your products and now that money is essentially flushed down the drain since I will now have to buy wraps to replace the ones I bought from you that have failed me.

My husband and I were taking a leap of faith when we started using cloth diapers. We did the research of the financial benefit and that was enough to convince us to invest in cloth. (And I do mean invest since the upfront cost was way more than it would have been to purchase a giant box of disposables). But that being said, we didn't know much. We started with Bummis wraps and unbleached cotton inserts. The bummis worked well while my son was small, but when I found these Thirsties Duo Wraps I was HOOKED! I love, love, love...did I say LOVE...the double gusset feature! We had blow outs many times with other wraps including disposable diapers, but not once with either size of the Duo Wrap. We've been using the same 6 wraps on our son (washing a load every night) for the past year and a few months and they still don't leak or have any issues. I have a daughter on the way at the end of March and already have plenty of wraps and cloth inserts to use with her. So the investment, as previously mentioned, is well worth it. We spent about $500 getting everything from a newborn size through potty training and don't have to buy anything else... Which is a significant savings from the cheapest disposable diaper + wipes (even if you use superstores and coupons). For those who use disposable and are looking to save money, cloth is easier these days and I highly recommend this Duo Wrap. Be sure to find a cloth insert that is unbleached/natural because they are FAR more absorbent than bleached (white) brands such as Gerber.
Additional Note: To help with daycare/nursery times, if/when you take your child into someone else's care, all-in-ones are great. Happy Heinys, Bum Genius, etc. But the upfront cost will be higher - however, the convenience of owning a few of the all-in-ones is worth it for those type of situations since they operate the same as a disposable diaper but when wet/soiled they can be thrown in a wet bag and washed at home for reuse. Plus, the inserts that are super absorbent in the all-in-ones can be used inside a cloth insert and cover for heavy wetters or for over night. Added bonus! If you care to read more: Cloth wipes are so much easier than I ever thought they'd be. I got the cheapest I could find...15 flannel wipes for $9 (only because while I like to save money sewing my own is not my gifting). I got 2 sets and a wipes warmer for $15 (used) - a total investment of $33. I'm so amazed at how much easier it is to wipe my son's bum clean, to restock wipes, and to "make" the soaking liquid. It sounds like a lot, but truly it's worth it. Not one diaper rash, skin irritation, or problem since we've switched to cloth wipes. I still use disposables for out and about and travel (of both diapers and wipes) for the convenience, but I still prefer my cloth over them since they work and protect my baby so much better. Hope this helps!

Disposable user, LOVE this for preventing "soak through" overnight,

I purchased this wrap for my son, who's 2. He must have an incredibly huge bladder because no matter what we did (restrict fluids at bedtime, double diapers, diaper changes at midnight), he soaked through his pajamas every night. He woke up cold, and crying, and it broke my heart.
I came to Amazon searching for a solution, and found this wrap. It's been amazing! He hasn't had wet pajamas since we started using it. I hand wash it every morning, and let it air dry during the day. It's very fast-drying, and so far has handled this routine very well. I am a disposable user (we have two year twins and a 10 month old and I wasn't brave enough to do cloth diapers), but I have to say, this wrap has been an incredible purchase. I highly recommend it for any parent who's concerned regarding overnight soak throughs, whether using disposable or cloth diapers.

I am a new mom of a 3 week old (7lbs 8 oz, 21inches) and i currently have 3 regular thristies, 2 duo wraps and 1 bummis wrap that we are utilizing daily with prefolds. I have found that the duo wraps aren't that much different than the regular thristies. They are much thinner and longer as everyone else has mentioned and i have been trying to save them for daytime use only. It is very difficult for the inexperienced cloth diaperer to fit the more bulky prefolds (green mountain or baby kicks) into the duos. I have been sticking to the gerber prefolds only and they haven't leaked once, but i would definitely prefer the regular thristies for the wider fit of my 3 week old.

Aplix doesn't take wear and tear.,

I love Thirsties Duo covers, but we did not get much use out of our size 2 aplix covers. We had four covers that we used with prefolds and in about five months the aplix closures were starting to come apart at the seams on all four covers. I wash using approved detergents and methods, so I'm reluctant to place the blame on myself. Part of my desire to use cloth was to have long lasting diapers to use for multiple children and this product does not meet that standard.Thirsties does, however, have amazing customer service and they replaced my covers no problem. Overall I would not choose to use these again and would not advise anybody to go through the trouble in the first place. Snaps FTW!

I went through three of these in three diaper changes as there were leaks every time. The snap sizing seems like a great idea but a snap on one of the covers was already hard to keep closed. I would not recommend these.
